Identify these dead things, please

Not a cat. These were, according to my mom, “too small to be squirrels” so they’re definitely not cats.

As for what lives around there, no need to ask neighbors… this place has been in our family since my mom was a little kid. We all go up there every year. Squirrels, chipmunks, mice, etc are all common… never seen rats though.

The place is closed up for the winter so various years we’ve opened the place up to find dead bats, squirrels, etc… it can be pretty gross. These ones just looked so… savaged… bleah.

Btw, at least you got a warning. My mom emailed the pics to me with no label or warning at all. Ack.

Opal , by the tail, these are flying squirrels. They are half the size of yer standard grey squirrel. Amazing critters, really cute, but they’re nocturnal, so having them in an attic usually drives folks nuts. Sorry these guys met such a grisly end. :frowning:
