That was the standard ice cream truck song when I was a kid, too. I’ve heard many other tunes used since then (“Greensleeves,” “Sailing, Sailing, Over the Bounding Main,” “Turkey in the Straw,” etc.), but never heard of this song having any identity other than as the ice cream truck song. I have heard a version with lyrics about the ice cream man played on the Doctor Demento Show in the '70s.
I don’t think I recognize the one in the OP.
When I was a kid, all the ice cream trucks played Pop Goes the Weasel. Then around the mid-90s they all started playing what I now know is Turkey in the Straw, thanks to Biffy the Elephant Shrew. I’ve been wondering that for years. Thanks!
A note on the music (rimshot): It started out with single notes as in the OP. Then the same tune was repeated with more notes. Instead of ‘ding-ding, ding-ding, ding ding ding’ it became ‘dingle-dingle, dingle-dingle, dingle dingle ding’.
Aside: My friend’s grandparents told him that that was ‘The Music Man’ who ‘drove around playing music to put little boys to sleep for their naps’. Then I moved into the neighbourhood and spilled the beans that it was really an ice cream truck.
Cripes! I came here searching for EXACTLY the same thing, except I played it in the key of F. I guess the search function does work.
It either doesn’t exist online, or my google-fu is failing me. This music is what I associate with the old Good Humor ice cream trucks of my youth. I would really like to find a nice recording of this music. Or even a real name for it.
Rats. I was hoping there’s be an answer!
Is it this? Because the comments say it is “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin
No, it’s not that. Try entering the notes on the link in the OP (if it’s still there) to hear approximately what it sounds like.
