I don’t normally listen to the radio, much less the homogenized clearchannel-owned stations. While putting in a CD the other night, my reciever accidentally flipped to the local alt-rock station. In lieu of their usual chugga-chugging nu-metal embarassment, mainstr-emo wailing, or undead 90’s alt-rock (cough) gem, the song they were playing caught my ear. It had a bit of a hushed, slightly ethereal male vocal, relatively clean guitars, and was midtempo. The main chorus lyrics I remember were something along the lines of “leave it alone - don’t talk about the way that i treat you” or “don’t ask me why I treat you so bad” or something of the sort.
Can anyone identify it? The station usually has an astoundingly unadventurous 20-30 song playlist that it cycles through, so I figure that it’s something in heavy rotation on alt-rock stations around the country. BUT, it was 4:00 am, so it there’s the chance that it was something unconventional that got slipped in in the off-hours.
Sorry, no dice, I haven’t listened voluntarily to commercial radio for several years.
Ironically, it puts me in the position of sometimes being accused of being too mainstream by hipper-than-thou types, since I have no idea if something’s “too” popular or not. Then I remind myself the only way those obsessives could know that was by listening to commercial radio!
Okay, I give up, what is “mainstr-emo”? If you just walked up to me and told me the word with no background (besides the meaning of the words “Mainstream” and “Emo”, the only band I could think of that may be in that category is Jimmy Eat World.
And probably Dashboard, too, but I wouldn’t know if they get play on commercial radio or not these days.
Or are there really bands that sound like the interlude-played Hearts That Hate? To me, the clip of the supposed song by Hearts That Hate sounds more like 2 doors down or Creed…i.e. stuff that literally makes me sick to my stomach to think that people in the music industry think that I like. (Then again, if I still had a car radio, I’d listen to commercial radio once in awhile, just to see if they’ve come around… )
Yes, I’ve heard it. It’s definitely in rotation on Indie 103.1 in LA, the best radio station on the planet. (I mean, how many rock stations have a former Sex Pistol as a DJ … and let him play whatever he wants … ?)
Unfortunately I’ve only heard it once or twice so I can’t remember the artist or the title. You might poke around in the playlists on the 103.1 website. If I hear it again I’ll post to this thread.
The line you’re thinking of is something like “don’t talk about how bad I treat you”.
Finally! I have no idea if that’s the song the OP was looking for, but I’d been killing myself trying to figure out who sang that one. Never would’ve guessed Finger Eleven, though.
That’s definitely it. I’m digging through their playlist, trying to see if I can figure it out. If you happen to catch the title, please feel free to resurrect this thread to post it.
