Identify this tree/shrub, please

Out in the rural suburbs, I keep seeing this tree / shrub that I kind of like, but I have no idea what it is.

It’s weird - doesn’t look like it has leaves as much as whispy feathers. They grow from a main trunk that doesn’t get very thick - almost reedlike. The tallest one I’ve seen is about 15’ tall. In the late summer the leaves turn bright pink / lavender.

Any idea?
