Inspired by the thread about “worst video game ever,” I’m trying to remember an arcade game kind of like Asteroids, but it had two spaceships attached together. Two players could each control a ship, shooting independently, but their thruster actions could interfere with each other (or cause wild spinning).
Space Duel?
Bingo - thanks (Space Duel - Wikipedia)
De nada. (And let me add that Wiki glosses over the key detail you’d remembered: “When two ships are tethered, thrusting must be done in cooperation, or one ship’s momentum will throw off both ships’ positions wildly.”)
From the Wikipedia page:
A single person holds the record high score for a two-player game?

Moving to the Game Room.
It was not default two player; just possible to play two players at the same time.
ETA: Check out this video footage. First thing is choose players and ship config.
Wow! I had been looking for this game for ages. Funny, though how your memory can play tricks on you. In my mind, the ship was shaped like the Enterprise and there was a black hole that affected you by pulling it into its gravitational field. That’s probably why I was never able to find it.
The black hole was in Space War wasn’t it?
FWIW I didn’t hate that game. I even kinda liked it (for the time). Not super great but not horrible either.
I enjoyed it - particularly when I could persuade a friend to go doubles with me.
