IE address bar question

When my friend types an address into the address bar on Internet Explorer, he gets a search page rather than the address he typed in. I walked him through the Tools>Options>Advanced>Do Not Search From Address Bar. All is well for two days and then it goes back to searching instead of going to the page he wants. I had him double check that the Do Not Search from Address Bar option was still checked and it is. Any suggestions?

He uses AOL to get online, then uses IE6.0 to browse. He has Windows XP Home.

Sounds like he’s been infected with some sort of spyware, or a virus/trojan that has that characteristic. I’d recommend a good virus scan (if he doesn’t have one then the free one at http://housecall.trendmicro.com will work) then run Adaware (www.lavasoft.de) and/or SpyBot to remove it.

That should do it, I’ve been clearing a lot of these over the past few weeks.
