I just found out that “The Play That Goes Wrong” will be playing in Portland this January and February, and we plan on going. Have you gone, and is it fun? Again, no spoilers.
I saw it in London in 2017. It was pretty hilarious.
I saw it in Syracuse with the original actors. Their timing was fantastic and the sets amazing.
Saw it in Philly put on by a local professional theater company (1812 Productions) last year. Hilarious in a very silly way.
Saw it in Olympia in 2022. Thoroughly enjoyed it. They kept the Britishisms in the script instead of using the Americanized version.
Wear a Duran Duran shirt if you have one.
Oh god yes! It’s hilarious. You think the schtick might get old, but it doesn’t – they keep coming up with new hilarious, clever things. I would see it again, even knowing all the stuff that Goes Wrong.
First time ever having heard of, but thanks for the recommendation.
Saw it at New World Stages (NYC off-Broadway venue) in 2023. I’m hoping to get to see a Sunday matinee on Feb 1.
And yes, it’s a great deal of fun.
On YouTube, you can watch “Peter Pan Goes Wrong” and “A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong,” as well as several episodes of “The Goes Wrong Show.”
Saw it in London 2 years ago, it was the highlight of our trip. Just go.
I know you asked for no spoilers … but apparently something goes wrong. ![]()
I’ve been living on it for the past few weeks. They [Mischief] have their own youtube channel with watch-a-longs. They’re only about 15 minutes long but you get a lot of insight into what it takes to make things go wrong correctly, what things actually went wrong (bloopers) and just some interesting stories and Easter eggs (The book ‘Anything You Can Act, I Can Act Louder’ seen in the episode below, shows up in a bunch of other episodes, secret fist bumps etc)
I think I only have a few more episodes to watch, but so far the Spirit of Christmas has been one of my favorites. But, really, they’re all great. Like someone upthread said, you’d think the shtick would get old but they really make it work and often in really unpredictable ways.
Also, Henry Lewis, that voice, it always reminds me of Matt Berry.
I saw it a few years back. I thought it was OK, but I felt it was a bit of a one-joke concept that eventually wore out its welcome for me.
That said, I know I am in the minority; most folks love it.
mmm
Ah, the Christmas Carol Goes Wrong is on Youtube and I need to watch it.
Thanks for the reminder.
Sounds like a homage or riff on Noises Off (Noises Off - Wikipedia), which I thought was hilarious. Sounds like something I would be interested in
Yes, it’s along the same lines. If you like one, I’m confident you’d like the other.
I have both seen it and directed it, and can (mostly) highly recommend it. The production I saw was unfortunately very “shouty,” by which I mean the director had the cast plowing through all of their lines at very high volume. It got old fast, and by the end the audience was basically exhausted.
That said, as long as you have a competent director, it is a total farcical delight, with tons of sight gags and some very impressive physical comedy.
