If (author)wrote it, then I'll buy it (book) list.

Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin are usually all pre-ordered whenever their name on a new book pops up in the mailing lists. (I have a close friend in an Norwegian online retailer, so with those guys he just presumes I’m going to want them and pre-orders them for me as soon as he gets notice)

Recently added are Joe Abercrombie and Peter F. Hamilton. Abercrombie threw out a debut fantasy series stronger than most fantasy writers peak at. A wicked, wicked sense of black humour, great characterization and a tightly knit plot. Some ball-fumbling occasionally, but nothing that detracts from my final impression. (The First Law - Go for it! Now! Do not walk, run!)

“* . . . . Poitthon, thir?*”

A fair summary of the Peter F. Hamilton books I’ve read (Pandora’s Star & Judas Unchained) is “Plot by flow chart on a background of awesome.” Great characterization, great plot lines, great twists and a badass sense of humour. Be warned though - the books are 1000 paperback pages each. The first three hundred pages are almost all character and milieu exposition - but he pulls it off. Truly the George R.R. Martin of science fiction.

I am pretty sure that I will buy anything by Patrick Rothfuss, although that list is rather short at this time.

She seems to be writing novellas lately. Inside Job won a Hugo in 2006, and All Seated on the Ground has been nominated for the 2008 award.

I’ve read all of the Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee novels, and will continue to buy them as long as he cranks them out, but I couldn’t include Hillerman because I haven’t read his other fiction or his non-fiction books.

Henry Miller
Norman Mailer
Hunter Thompson
All with lots of works. All dead so I can catch up.

Jose Saramago
Umberto Eco
Carl Hiaasen
Neal Stephenson

Terry Pratchett.

Lee Child.

Esther Friesner.

Piers Anthony.

Pretty much any anthology by Martin Greenberg.

Tim Dorsey and Carl Haaisen. I’ve loved everything either of them have written, including Haaisen’s children’s books, *Flood * and Hoot. I used to buy the latest Stephen King as soon as it hit the shelves, but sometime around Hearts of Atlantis I stopped doing that.
