If beer had no alcohol, would you still drink it?

Absolutely. I too drink it for the taste. In all honesty, I rarely if ever get even a vague buzz from one beer. Since one beer is all I drink at a time (as a late-night treat,) the alcohol content is a moot point.

Now, taking the boom out of my scotch… That I might miss!

I’d keep drinking some beers. Others, not so much.

No.

Sure would! And I will say that O’Doule’s Amber isn’t half bad.

Well, I drink some lower alcohol content beers sometimes, so probably.

Hell no. When possible, I go for other drinks anyway.

Unless the texture ordinarily granted by alcohol can be maintained as well, then no.
Bodiless beer isn’t worth drinking.

There are lots of beverages that taste really yummy; I don’t drink pints and pints of them unless they produce a buzz. My psychological theory is that if you removed the alcohol, I’d drink a lot more at first, and then gradually lose taste for it once my brain realized there was no rewarding buzz following it down the pipe.

Still though, I could be wrong about a cool pint of de-alcoholized craft ale. It does taste pretty much better than anything.

Not beer, as I’m not a big fan of fizzy drinks, but if I can transfer it to wine, I’m not sure. I like the taste but also like the buzz/warmth from drinking alcohol, and I think a lot of the depth of taste comes from the alcoholic content. I also enjoy the ‘wake-up’ buzz from caffeine and think the caffeine adds richness to the drink. I don’t drink caffeine-free coffee.

I drink pretty much wine, water and coffee (with the odd beer or cocktail thrown in). Without the alcohol and caffeine, I would probably just stick to water. I don’t have a sweet tooth, so flavoured drinks don’t hold much of an attraction.

Ultimately, I don’t find the orignal question tenable, because I think the alcohol makes the taste/warmth. I would happily drink wine all day if it didn’t make me drunk – I don’t drink alcohol to get drunk.

Sure. I’d probably drink more, though, ruining my weight and bank balance.

Depends on the beer. Just last weekend I had an impressive Double Bock that was aged in rye whiskey barrels. If they could keep that blend of flavours and texture without the 8% ABV I would have drunk much more than two pints.
A nice shandygaff could be just as refreshing without alcohol.

Bud Light Lime would not be considered.

I wouldn’t drink nonalcoholic beer any more than I’d drink decaf coffee.

I needs my drugs of choice.

Yes, but mostly with food, since beer goes so well with some savory foods.

I’ve always hated the taste of beer and have only had one or two so of course I wouldn’t. But I’d still drink wine occasionally if it didn’t have alcohol. And I’m not talking about grape juice: it’s too cloyingly sweet for me. I’m talking about semi-dry wine style grape juice.

Yes, but only because I’ve already learned to like it.

If it had always been alcohol free, I doubt it.

I would drink more, but I would also drink the alcoholic kind too.

I’m assuming ‘tastes the same’ would also include the taste/mouthfeel of the alcohol content, just not the intoxication.

No. I’ve never understood how there’s even a market for non-alcoholic beer. The taste of beer is OK, but there are other things that taste better.

I wouldn’t have started drinking non-alcoholic beer in the first place, and I would seldom drink a non-alcoholic beer even after I got a taste for it.

In a heartbeat. I love everything about beer and I wish I could drink far, far more of it.

Also, to those interested in the calories, most of the calories in beer (or wine or liquor) come from the alcohol itself. Take the alcohol out and your 250 calorie pint will drop to about 100 calories, depending on style (full bodied beers have more residual carbohydrates).

Love beer, and yes, I would still drink it if it was alcohol free - with the caveat that that’s only if it was a decent tasting beer.

Only had a few that really measured up - drank my fair share of O’Doul’s, which is tolerable. My local packie used to carry Birrell, brewed by Radegaast in Czech - and I really miss it.

I that wish you could buy a good variety of craft-brewed table beers in North America. Of course, it’s probably just as well that there isn’t, because I for one would be somewhat fatter if you could.
