Just don’t like it, don’t particuarly like the taste or the effects of alcoholic drinks. Find it overrated. Anyone else feel the same?
Lots of people, I think.
I don’t mind a beer, even a few beers sometimes. But I hate nearly all other alcohol and don’t enjoy any kind of drunk feelings. I find I get way ahead of myself on hard alcohol(even wine). I think it is because I don’t sip non-alcoholic drinks, so I find it hard to slip anything alcoholic. I avoid anything over 4-5% alcohol. Yep, I’m a a girly drinker at most.
So basically, you are not alone.
Same here. I’ll drink good beer but only one. Can’t stand wine or spirits.
I first started drinking with friends when I was around 13-14. I remember being super disgusted by it, and a friend told me it’s an acquired taste. Turns out he was right. I gradually became ok with beer and wine, was pretty grossed out by mixed drinks, then became ok with them. I don’t drink hard liquor too often, but I went from being disgusted to having a beer with dinner on a regular basis.
I don’t mean to imply that people who flat out don’t like alcohol should continue trying it. I just found it interesting that the taste grew on me.
I didn’t touch alcohol all during college for this reason (the taste) then I learned how to drink and what to drink so I didn’t taste the alcohol. A frozen strawberry margarita that isn’t too stiff tastes like a gas station slushee. A good craft that’s below, say 5 or 6% shouldn’t taste too much like alcohol. A gin and tonic will taste like gin but not alcohol. A strong vodka tonic (say, 3/4 good vodka, 1/4 tonic, over ice) will taste mostly like the lime wedge you put in it.
OTOH…
A crappy margarita will taste boozy, a strong beer will have a bit of an after burn and a vodka tonic that’s too stiff will taste like lighter fluid (oddly enough a weak vodka tonic tastes horrible as well, if you don’t want much to drink, order a regular vodka tonic and don’t drink it all).
Having said that. I don’t care for getting drunk. I usually drink water while I’m drinking to try to stay at or below buzzed. If I’m just out for dinner with friends, never more then one drink/beer. If I’m going to a bar for the night I take it easy and typically don’t drink for the last hour or so that I’m there.
I’ve just never been a big drinker. I’ve been ‘can’t walk drunk’ either two or three times ever. The last time was at a Quinceanera for someone that just recently turned 20 or 21.
On preview I see what Mahaloth said and I’ll agree with that. I practically forced myself to like beer (I really hated the stuff) but I hated going out with friends having one gin and tonic in 5 minutes and then watching them all sit and drink for the next hour then having a margarita and watching them all have 5 more beers before we left. At least once I learned to drink (and nurse a) beer instead of having 2 drinks over the course of a night I could have 4 or 5. Also, yeah, a big fan of the girly drinks. I got no problem sitting at a bar with a blue raspberry margarita.
ETA, I know this is odd, but I always admired my friends that could go to a bar and drink 10 beers and not appear to be smashed. I have friends that can go to a music festival for a day and drink 15-20+ beers each over the course of 10 hours and then go back to their house and sit around the fire drinking more…if I have two or three beers before 3:00 in the afternoon I have to take a nap and I’ll wake up with a headache. Not that I have any interest in doing this on a regular basis but it be nice to be able to sit around the bonfire all day with them and not be the one with 4 empty water bottles and 1 beer next to them.
Me.
Not counting NyQuil and the like, I have consumed alcohol exactly twice in my life (I’m 30). The night before I got married I had a peppermint schnapps and 7-up, and several years later I went bar-hopping with some friends. I had a vodka & cranberry juice and a coors light. Yuck to it all. I can’t stand the taste of booze. Thankfully, my wife doesn’t drink either.
I like beer a lot, but I’ve cut back since getting a prescription for weed. In fact, I’ve gone from about 3/4 of a liter of vodka a day to about a six-pack of beer in the last two months.
Since you’re looking for opinions, I’ll move this to IMHO.

Bingo. It has a peculiar unpleasant taste in my bloodstream and I don’t like it at all.
I can’t stand the stuff. Even so, when I was younger, I would drink, often to excess, because everyone else did, and I was, well, frankly, obsessed with fitting in. Then I reached the age where I stopped giving a shit what anyone else thought, and just completely stopped.
Which is good, because I *can’t *drink responsibly. In my natural state I’m a blithering, jibbering idiot. Normally, I’m able to keep the worst of my idiocy penned up (well, mostly), but if even a molecule of alcohol enters my system, it all comes flooding out, like a dam is bursting.
I like one or two drinks, over an hour or so, with food, but any more than that- no thanks. More than that and I feel sick and may even throw up way before I’m drunk, and I just feel tired and horrible. I have thought that maybe I’m allergic, or don’t process alcohol the same as most others, or something, because if everyone felt the way I did after drinking a lot, there would be no alcoholics. It is awful.
Mm, that’s how I feel.
Does anyone else also experience different moods with different types of alcohol? If I have a glass of wine with a meal, I get a sort of foggy head, slight tiredness but still good natured with something like a small glass of liqueur which I can never finish by the way, I get terribly moody and turn not aggressive but just grumpy with a splitting headache. I know what kind of drunk I’d be if I did intake alcohol and it would be unpleasant for everyone.
And it also frustrates me that when you’re with friends or the like and they’re drinking you can have great conversations and they can be a more of a “fun” person if you will, then the next day forget about the whole experience and you’re wondering if they meant what they said.
Anything alcoholic tastes nasty to me.
Me, too. Except, I have found two sweet wines that taste really good to me and hardly like alcohol at all. A German Piesporter, and the other day I ran into a Toscado (I think it was called)- they both taste way more like fruit juice than wine.
No alcohol for me. Partly because I hate the taste, although I forced myself to get used to it when I was younger. My other reason, though, is that my father was an alcoholic and I hate alcohol for that reason as well.
Just don’t drink it.
I only tolerated beer, but that’s lost its charm too. I had fun binge drinking, but now ugly stuff sometimes comes up when I’m drunk (pardon the pun), so I’m done for a long while, I think.

I don’t like it. I don’t get a buzz, but do get headaches. Why bother?
I like the taste of alcohol, and I get a nice buzz after about 3 drinks.
Any more than that and the negative effects starts to overwhelm the positive. I dont like being drunk. I’ve never had a problem stopping my drinking after 3 drinks.
If I had to guess, I would say you had a Moscato. Most of the ones you see are fairly low alcohol, carbonated, and sweet. I particularly liked one I had a year or two ago called Nivole but I haven’t seen it in a while.
I don’t drink much wine, like only a few styles of beer, and don’t have a taste for most mixed drinks, although a Crown and Coca Cola isn’t bad occasionally.
