Not a fan of alcohol.

I do. Beer doesn’t really affect me (I’m a slow drinker and I like the taste.) I don’t like really dry wines and champagne but a glass of sweet wine gives me kind of a cheerful, mellow feeling. Hard liquor, evn diluted with a lot of mixer or in something like a sweet girly drink makes me crabby and tired.

Pretty much. I’ll have the odd drink here and there, but I don’t really crave it. I like my pleasures with all my senses at their peak–or at least as close as they get, considering.

I hate hangovers. I found that as I got older, it took less and less to give me a hangover. Yuck.

Also, living with a raging alcoholic quickly takes all the enjoyment out of any alcoholic beverage. When I insisted all alcohol be removed from the home, I never bought any again - and it’s been many years.

I love most alcoholic beverages. The exceptions are vodka and tequila. Unfortunately, they conflict with a medicine I take so I now almost 100% abstain.

I can’t stand the taste of beer - and yes I’ve tried many different kinds.

I’ve learned that I can’t stand the taste of wine either. I’ve tried many different kinds and they all taste the same to me.

I’m not saying that beer or wine are bad, I am saying that chemically they don’t work with my body.

I will drink liquor but I don’t enjoy it. I don’t like being fall-over drunk and also alcohol makes my nose all stuffed up so I assume I’m allergic to it. If I don’t like being drunk and one glass will make it hard to breathe, I might as well just pass.

More for the rest of us.

I get really congested when I drink, too. What’s that about? Allergy, dilated blood vessels, ?? I’ve never figured it out.

I don’t drink either. Hate it.

I used to think it was because I smoked more when I drank but since I quit smoking it still happens.

I’ve always meant to start a thread on it but I figured the first post would be “yes, allergies” and that’d be it. Maybe now since there are TWO of us a thread might be a good idea…

I sort of like some wines (mellow reds) but I have to remember to finish the glass as alcohol oddly doesn’t convey any ‘you’re not finished yet’ information to me, even as much as an apple. I drink wine socially if I want to stop worrying (2 glasses max), but it turns out I don’t want to stop worrying most of the time. More than 2 glasses and I get stupid-melty and hot, it’s unpleasant.

Dope, on the other hand, makes me feel like I have suddenly turned into the living dead and everyone knows but won’t tell me. This is not something I ever want to pursue again.

I do too. I’m definitely allergic to red wines, they produce hives, but I get congested with any type of alcohol.

The last time I drank a beer, it caused major congestion and some hives also - so it may be that whatever allergy I have is getting worse.

This is me, too - I don’t think I’m allergic to alcohol, I just think I have a different tolerance to it than other people. My husband can drink six beers and be mildly buzzed, and not a whiff of a hangover the next day, but I was starting to get hangovers from two beers when I just said, “Enough of this shit,” and stopped drinking. I do actually like alcohol just fine; I miss beer, and bloody ceasars, and vodka coolers, and other yummy drinks, but it doesn’t like me.

I don’t like the taste of it, I need it to be masked in a fruity drink.

I don’t feel very good with alcohol either. It makes me heat up super fast and I already feel too hot most of the time. And I’m that annoying quirky person when I’m sober, I don’t need booze to amplify it.

There are only a few alcoholic drinks I enjoy. Not beer, ever; but some ciders are good; Bailey’s is lovely; and I quite enjoy a Japanese alcoholic fruit drink called chu-hi.

But I don’t enjoy being drunk, ever. I feel giddy and not in control of my body, and I’m aware that I’m not thinking clearly, and it’s not pleasant at all.

Yep. I got snockered one time in my life when I was 16 and I said never again. Over the years, I’ve tasted various wines, etc. and they all taste like what I imagine mule piss does.

I like alcohol fine, but I do get the stuffy nose as well.

I don’t like alcohol’s taste, or the way it makes me feel. But I do like the taste of beer. The result is that I’ve been turning into a bit of a craft beer nerd. I’ll never be the kind who goes to beer festivals or those special beer dinnners that have five courses with five beers, but I do go looking for special bottles. I’ve also learned the code names for extra-strong beers (“barley wine”, “Imperial” anything, “double” anything, and American brewers tend to think “Scotch ale” or “wee heavy” has to be extra-strong, thought the Scots think otherwise) so I can avoid them. Menus that list ABVs are great!

My counterpart of Niven’s “Never waste calories” is “Never waste alcohol.” If your capacity is only one beer an evening, you sure as hell don’t want to waste that capacity on Bud Light.

Bear in mind that some people simply do not produce the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase, required to metabolize ethyl alcohol. So drinking really is poisonous to them.

Being even more pedantic, ethanol is a toxin, period.

I looked it up, and interesting- I must not produce much of that enzyme. The more you know.
