For the long term good of the country IF Trump is sentenced to prison long term he should serve out his full sentence. Just like anyone else convicted of a felony.
How is inciting an attack on the Capitol not a violent crime?
If it gets to the point where he’s serving a prison sentence I think he’ll be stripped of his Secret Service protection, along with his pension and other perks.
And no golfing privileges.
No pardon, no commutation, even in that case. Trump was President of the United States. He held the highest office in the land. The nation entrusted him with great power & privilege and he shat on us. For that he merits a much harsher punishment than an ordinary citizen. He should receive the maximum sentence for the crimes he’s convicted of.
This has got to be the most stupidest post I have ever come across. Please lay off the Crack!

Accusing others of posting while on drugs is a personal attack. This will be a warning, your third, in a very short amount of time. You’re on thin ice.
Under the law, former presidents get their pension with no exceptions written in.
Are we predicting that there will be 60 votes in the Senate to change the law?
Or will the rule of law will soon end in the U.S., with judges making up clever lawless penalties?
Exactly what I was going to say.
For the record, I posted this not because I think it’s a good idea for Trump to get a pardon, but only because some people will look at the Nixon situation and draw similar conclusions. Certainly, loyal Retrumplicans will want to see him pardoned by whoever is president at the time.
The bottom line is that I don’t think Trump or anyone else is above the law. Period. But as I learned in another thread, impeachment is the only way to punish a sitting president, and because impeachment is a political process, presidents aren’t always impeached when they should be.
There is a risk that an imprisoned Trump’s political strength will grow while in prison, but that’s a risk the country has to take. I doubt he’ll live that long in prison.
Nobody thought pardoning Trump was a good idea makes me feel better.
So, do you have any opinion that is relevant to the subject of this thread? If Trump is convicted, do you think he should be pardoned for the good of this country?
Modding: OK, you must know this is not the subject of this thread. Everyone drop this side issue now.
No, Trump should not be pardoned because Trump has demonstrated that he will continue to follow the path he has gone. This was different from Nixon who knew the jig was up and he left politics. It is the honorable way Nixon acted when he got caught that warranted the pardon, and really this is how it should be for everyone IMHO, though that would not be practical. Trump shows no signs of accepting what he did was wrong and changing his tune.
As for other Maga’s, we have to, as the OP put it, let the chips fall where they may. If they do crimes they do time if caught, if they speak out they have protected free speech to the degree that is allowed. As for those who think Trump is a religious figure to somehow prepare the way, Trump in jail for the rest of his expected life would seem to answer if that were really true.
So, he goes from curling up with some KFC and watching Fox News on his couch at Mar-a-Lago to being on the run as a fugitive from justice?
There are many issues I have with him being under house arrest, but concerns of a “rescue” are not one of them.
It’s just legislation that assigns protection for life, not anything in the constitution. In a world where Trump is convicted, it should be easy enough for congress to amend Public Law 89-186 to exclude those convicted of a felony.
The problem isn’t that he might actually get broken out of prison (which isn’t likely for that reason among others), but that his more unhinged supporters might make an attempt and get somebody hurt. The more clear it is that he’s in prison to stay, the less risk there is of that.
Split the difference. Pardon him for half his crimes, but requiring full allocution and corroborating evidence as a condition of issuing said pardons. Prosecute vigorously on the rest.
I would love to get to a point not merely where no one would vote for him, but where no one would admit having voted for him.
When Ford pardoned Nixon, he was not saying “Nixon did nothing wrong” but rather “It’d be better for the country if we put Nixon behind us.” And I don’t think people at the time interpreted the pardon as meaning that Nixon was innocent.
But if Biden pardoned Trump, there would be way too many people saying “See? That proves that Trump did nothing wrong! Now, let’s go have a big MAGA rally and put him back into power.”
If a pardon of Trump meant we’d never hear from or about him ever again, I’d be at least tempted to consider it.
I’m now imagining a really twisted version of the Underground Railroad where MAGAS and Trump are smuggled from one place to another. Red hats are placed on street signs as symbols. etc.
The only way I see a pardon happening if it is conditioned on Trump publicly admitting to the crimes that he was convicted of.
I’m picturing a Trump version of Vic Mackey finally confessing on The Shield.
