Same here, but I’d rather see Judi Dench…
And +whatever on the Companion not having a ‘thing’ for the Doctor, and not having a Mysterious Secret.

No need to break the sonic screwdriver, just ocassionally have it not fix the thing.
OTOH I could really dig OP proposals #2 and 3 for a refresher, I support the proposal. I suppose part of the matter is that it’s harder to explain his just recklessly endangering some Random Innocent Civilian by letting her/him tag along, as opposed to someone who is key to some plot.
OP#4, look, if I were as awesome as the Doctor I would be mentioning it to whoever would listen, yes he does tend to turn into Captain Exposition, however that has gone on for a while. (I’d settle for temporarily retiring “It’s bigger on the inside!”, replacing it with just a “What the…” look followed by telling him “OK, later, when the crisis is over, I’m gonna have a LOT of questions?” )
OP#5 is a bit trickier, NuWho is premised with Gallifrey’s fall being a done fact, and their last exit gave a major antagonist a glorious send-off, but after all there could conceivably have remained some others who did not go down together in the Time War (That’s one thing with series/“universe” writing: does the author at X time really want to take long-established major characters/settings and declare their final elimination, forcing future authors to do without or else contrive explanations to bring them back?). But facing some rump remnant of the Time Lords just wouldn’t be the same thing, would it?
Agree that part of the show’s succesful recipe all along has been that you can have action, drama, comedy, horror, etc. elements happen along the arcs, so there is no need to “choose one”.
New monsters. Daleks, Cybermen, others are rather boring.
Fewer shows on Earth, more space/alien planet plots.
Less “Humans are TEH GREATEST” lines. (Though I think this has diminished since Tennant left.)
Can we have a black Doctor? How about a female Doctor? Whoopi Goldberg isn’t doing anything, is she?
Less season-long story arcs, more monster of the week episodes.
A companion who, when she sees her first “alien bazaar”, totally and completely loses her shit, causing the Doctor to immediately take her back to Earth and dropping her off in a mental ward.
OK, that Whoopi Goldberg thing was a joke. But a non white-male Doctor would be different.
I don’t want it to be Sean Bean because I don’t want them to actually kill off the Doctor.
How about Mister Bean?
You know, since the Doctor can regenerate, I would love an arc where he comes back completely evil and does his best to fuck Earth’s shit up. Make it 4-6 episodes (like Torchwood: Children of Earth), completely dark, and not suitable for the kiddies.
Since I’m dreaming, I’d also like to win $10 million sometime tonight as well.
Unless it is actually Whoopee.
Whoopi Goldberg would make a fantastic Doctor. That’s an inspired suggestion
I can see Whoopi as a companion for an episode or two, but after that she’d get really old really quick. If it has to be an African-American woman, I’d go for Gabourey Sidibe long before Whoopi.
Worst American Doctor Who possibilities:
Billy Crystal
Robin Williams
Billy Bob Thornton
Victoria Jackson
Jim Carrey
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog would make a better Doctor than Whoopi Goldberg.
But then he would have to die every episode…:smack:
If my last suggestion was unpopular, this one will really hit rock bottom.
I’ve suggested my fan theory before about why the Doctor always has a companion: he’s a vampire.
Not a blood-drinking vampire. He’s a psychic vampire. He feeds off people’s emotions. So he has to find somebody that he can take on amazing adventures so he can feed off their sense of excitement. Of course eventually they get used to all the strange things that happen around them and their level of excitement drops. That’s when the Doctor starts looking for a new companion.
I can see that. shudder
As for new Doctors, how about Lenny Henry? Older, but still a fine figure of a man. Funny. Buds with Gaiman (for the DW connection) and co-wrote a book with Pratchett.
I’d like to see a male companion, even if it is necessary to include some sexual tension. It’s been established that the Doctor is at least bisexual (or that he has no preferences).
Bob
That was actually the ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston.
As for what I’d change…get rid of River Song. I reaaallly don’t like the dynamic between her and the Doctor. It just seems wrong and she is just an annoying character overall. In fact, if I could, I’d go back in time myself and rewrite her out of all the scripts before filming.
Jelly Baby?
Amen and hallelujah!!!
I like River Song as a character (and love the actress), and I really dug the idea of two people meeting up in reverse time with one falling slowly more and more in love and the other falling slowly out of love as they knew the other person less and less… it was a unique idea but the execution of it has failed. I’d be fine with her being gone too.
I actually kind of dig the idea of the Time Lords finding a way to come back and I don’t care how contrived the explanation is. They were awesome in the original series and I think they’d provide a great dynamic for the Doctor and his exploring.
I 1000000% agree with getting away from season-long story arcs (the Doctor is going to die on a particular day oh noes! or there are cracks in the universe and the silence is coming oh noes!). I thought, personally, that the brilliance of the first 4 seasons of NuWho were that they were very good episodic episodes but where the season finale came together very nicely after setting some things up in a fairly brilliant way. Seasons 5 and 6 were just terrible as season-long story arcs compared to the first. Seven seems to be better, however, about getting back to the monster of the week stuff.
I’m fine with keeping Matt Smith for a while longer. In fact, he may be the only reason I keep watching the show.
Or fuck, find a way to bring back Donna for another season.
Screwdriver will never be broken. There was a shot in one episode after a screwdriver broke of the Tardis popping up a new one. At least in NuWho, the console can always generate a new one. Sad.
Didn’t he promise a few regenerations ago to visit his granddaughter? I’d like to see that.
So it was. Thanks.
