Look, there will NEVER be a time when the Dictator will decide to “suspend elections”. Not gonna happen. We’ll always have elections. What will happen is that elections will be managed. Only certain people will run, only certain political parties will be on the ballot, the media will only talk about certain issues.
Look at Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. Held elections regularly.
The Dictator will never cancel elections and go on TV and wag his dick at the citizenry and tell them they are now slaves. That’s not how dictators keep power. They keep the forms of freedom but not the substance.
And the federal government doesn’t have the power to suspend state governments. Or cancel elections for that matter. The United States doesn’t have ANY federal elections. Every election is run by the individual states.
What interests me more is that in any far fetched scenario where the Constitution is suspended, would the military go along? Their oath is to defend the Constitution so would their leaders allow it to be suspended? Would the average soldier follow orders to fire on civilians who protested this illegal action?
