I, too.
Absolutely is allowed.
That being said, the best option is to ignore them and not respond.
No, the best option is to follow up with a non-sequiter and a detailed question that you never read the answer to.
Of course it’s allowed. It’s the pit. Come on, now.
Now see, this was kind of like my thinking too. I always separated internet life and real life. Internet feelings weren’t real feelings in my view. If someone hurt my internet feelings, I knew I needed to get the fuck over that noise, and fast. If someone I cared about in real life hurt me intentionally, I would want to address it seriously. But I learned from the dope that many, many people here don’t look at it that way. A lot of posters have actually seemed surprised at my view and don’t really draw a distinction between how they look at real life people and internet people. They do think they know you, and that you know them and they are super invested. There was a thread about it once, and it was a real eye opener for me.
Too much trouble. “Bite me, bitch!”, would be my suggestion.

The Pit* is not for those with thin, gentle skins.
*Even the modern version of it. The older version - hoo boy. They would have had you roasting on a spit over an open fire!
A SPIT? Geez, in my day you’d have been lucky to get a spit. It would have shown they cared.
That’s why it’s in the Pit. It’s so you can mention other posters that are just slightly bugging you, and don’t deserve a real pit thread. We don’t otherwise have a place for that. I’m not even sure it’s allowed in PMs.
That said, I’ve always almost felt sorry for the people who do what happened here. They aren’t discussing the actual topic and use pretty strong insults, so they clearly just have a big problem with poster themselves, but are too chicken to actually make a pit thread.
One part of the pattern is that they quite often use some variation of “retarded” as if they haven’t gotten past that kindergarten-level insult. It’s kinda precious, really, saying something that makes you sound like a child while trying to say the other person is stupid.
So, yeah, it’s just someone taking advantage of the fact that a certain level of trolling is allowed in the pit, even though they aren’t that good at it. Ignore the post and possibly even the poster if that’s all they do.
I have also noticed that there are a few posters who consider what is said on this board their whole life. Generally speaking, they usually are man child types who try to pretend they actually leave their homes (or parents homes) upon occasion and actually understand how people interact face to face. They then offer advice and, of course, the appropriate tsk, tsk to others. Luckily, that is within the rules.
The question has been answered. Those who wish to offer backhanded snipes at other posters are invited to open a new thread in the Pit. This is closed.
