–and then one day, Justin_Bailey watched Battlefield Earth, and was never heard from again.
I’m with you on AI. It’s not a perfect movie, but it was interesting. I liked Unbreakable, but that probably because I was a comic book reader growing up.
Me too. It’s actually my favorite of the three for a lot of reasons. Sure it’s not perfect, but neither are the two.
I think this is directed at Justin_Bailey but I’ll answer for myself anyway if that’s alright. I think it got really weak from about season 11 - 15 or so, then got really strong again, and the current season is kind of so-so. They could produce the best, funniest season ever, though (which might’ve actually been 17 or 18) and it would still get panned by a lot of people, because it has become cool to hate new episodes of The Simpsons.
I loved Unbreakable and I’m not a comic book fan. I also enjoyed A.I.. I didn’t like Temple of Doom, but I did like The Last Crusade. I enjoy the new Simpsons episodes and find they get better when I revisit them a few years later.
It is not uncommon for my tastes to run contrary to what seems like a SDMB consensus (in books and movies.)
They seem to love Donnie Darko - bored the piss out of me.
Cryptomonicon - bored the piss out of me.
All of Terry Pritchard - bores the piss out of me
Neil Gaiman - bores the piss out of me.
But then, we all love LOTR and The Princess Bride (just to name two.)
I guess if I’m looking, I can find lots of things that are contrary to what I like. But if I’m looking, I guess I can find lots of things that agree with what I like.
I concur. That guy was just plain crazy. It was depressing.
I didn’t get it.
I liked **Unbreakable ** and Sixth Sense, I even liked Hudson Hawk. I think this puts be in the minority on the dope.
I loved Raiders and Last Crusade, I actually think Temple of Doom is nearly unwatchable and indeed last weekend I watched the other two and wandered off during Temple.
I find the first 8-10 seasons of **Simpsons ** were awesome and since then the shows have not been as good and some are great and some are terrible.
I also think the show has gotten less kid friendly with time.
Donnie Darko I enjoyed, sorry about that. I even liked the Harvey references.
**Cryptomonicon ** never even heard if this, is it a movie or book?
Terry Pratchett I only rediscovered recently. I read his first book when it was new and it was not even as good as early Piers Anthony and I gave up on him at that point. **QtM ** & **Silenus ** convinced me I was missing out and it turned out they were correct. I read almost everything he wrote last year and while some of it is garbage, most of his books were quite enjoyable. I especially liked the books about the watch. Anything with Rincewind was generally poor.
Neil Gaiman, I’m not a fan, but the movie **Stardust ** was surprisingly good, much better than that similar piece of crap with the compass and the talking polar bears. **Golden Compass ** was crap.
I love the Princess Bride, one of my favorite movies. I already comments on LotR, they are of course my favorite books with nothing coming close.

It’s more than a book, it’s a tome (check the page count).
This is how I feel about The Simpsons exactly. Although I’d put the cutoff point for “awesome” Simpsons at the end of season 9. But there have been plenty of great episodes since then (Behind the Laughter springs instantly to mind), but on average, they pale in comparison to the early Simpsons.
It’s a rather long book by Neal Stephenson. I liked it a lot but doesn’t half go on. And it’s one of a series of four. If you want to try him out go for Snow Crash it’s a bit more digestible.
