All patriots aren’t scoundrels but scoundrels of a certain type, such as the type that wants to be a dictator, usually rely on patriotism

I don’t think it would be changed. As the Kingfish said, long ago, “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the American flag.”
No one is forced to say anything in the pledge.
