If there was a another "Constantine" movie what current actor should play him?

Just curious. Which current actor would make the best Constantine?

Alex Winter would be good

Still Paul Bettany.

Yep. Would have been the correct choice eight years ago, and would still be the correct choice now.

The correct choice is obviously Sting

Kevin McKidd.

Sting’s much too old, unless it’s going to be a supernatural version of Matlock.

Dennis Leary

You wanna do it fairly young, say ten years after Newcastle, I’d vote for Michael Fassbender. http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2008/07/25/REXMaria-Laura-Antonelli_Michael-Fassbender460.jpg

I’d like to see Anthony Stewart Head play John Constantine. I always see him as an incredibly erudite Cockney who has a chip on his shoulder. I think Giles (with the right accent) with an attitude would fit the bill nicely.

in before the obligatory Benedict Cumberbatch post(s)

I’d watch.

Not sure I understand why Keanu Reeves couldn’t play him again?

Universal internet hatred for Keanu Reeves. No other reason.

Comic book Constantine: working-class Briton with Liverpool accent.
Reeves Constantine: middle-class American with California accent.

Actually, now that you mention Cumberbatch, I think the other Sherlock would make an excellent Constantine. Yes, I nominateJonny Lee Miller.

Are you seriously suggesting the movie would have been better if Keanu had attempted a scouse accent?
I actually really like the Keanu version. I know it took a few liberties with the source, but the story is pretty solid and its an enjoyable movie. Keanu isn’t great, but isn’t bad enough to ruin it for me.

Keanu was OK - if you’re going to make John American, you could do a lot worse, he was good enough for me - nice uneasy mix of cynical fatalism and bravado, it worked.

Weisz was also OK. Could have done without LaBeouf, but that goes without saying in anything.

Swinton and Stormare, on the other hand, were both fucking excellent, and kicked the movie from OK to good, in my opinion.

The movie wasn’t that bad, and I always love Weisz, but couldn’t they have at least taken the trouble to get his name right? Constantine rhymes with Valentine, not Halloween.

I’ve always thought Daniel Craig would make a good Constantine. Keanu almost pulled off the role. He just lacks gravitas. The only movie he ever appeared in that he sold me on being a threatening presence was “The Day the Earth Stood Still” That was the perfect role for his inability to successfully emote onscreen.

At the time, I thought James Marsters was the best pick. Bear in mind that Constatine fell into the occult via his membership in the UK equivalent of a garage band, so the person needs a bit of that “rocker” vibe. Not that Marsters could play a chain-smoking, trench-coat-wearing, ruthless, blond rock-wannabee with connections to the occult.
