If we can't edit posts, why does it say we can?

Just wondering - in the Forum Rules at the top (or bottom) of each page it says:

Changes: Messages can be edited by their author. Messages can be deleted by their author.

Is this message a bug, or do I need to do something special to change my mispellings?

This thread should explain the situation, but simply put, we have chosen to turn off the user edit feature. If something is particularly egregious, you can e-mail the forum moderator. In most cases, we’ll find time to fix anything that has gone horribly awry. We probably won’t correct minor spelling errors, it’s just too time consuming, and I know we won’t change overall post content. But repairing links or vB coding can usually be handled. I hope this helps.
(UncleBeer, you spelled the word “off” wrong. I fixed it for you. Please be more careful in the future.)

OK, I understand. Thank you Uncle!

I knew it!! All you moderators are just jackbooted thugs, so gun-happy you’ll even censor each other!!

Oh, sorry. Forgot for a moment that I’m part of the Evil Reg Konspiracy. Carry on.
