If you could choose just one memory . . .

When I read this I immediately had one instance pop into my mind. However, it somehow seemed banal and unworthy when written so I won’t share. I know it was awesome and that’s enough for me. I would would happily live there for all eternity.

However, upon further reflection I find a lot of other moments popping into my head and I am beginning to second guess my first choice. I know there is someting to be said for going with your first instinct but then again it would seem this situation would call for some serious reflection…we’re talking eternity afterall.

Would I want to relive some of the most peaceful and content moments of my life? Would I want the biggest thrill? The most intense experience? The happiest moment? (etc.)

I just don’t know…they all have their charms.

I’ll have to think on this one further as well.

(Or conversely, how much would it really matter? I could be seriously happy in any of the moments I am contemplating so there isn’t really a bad choice.)

How long? Hmmmmm. Since it’s going to be staged and filmed like a movie, it should be something that could be captured in a single shot. In most movies, a single shot lasts an average of 2-3 seconds, but sometimes can go a lot longer. Unbreakable consists almost exclusively of shots over a minute long. Snake Eyes, Boogie Nights, and The Player start with shots of 6-8 minutes. The longest shot that can be recorded is about 10 minutes. So let’s limit it to a memory that could be captured in a single shot of no more than 10 minutes. For the perfect day, that might be a quiet moment late in the day when you reflect on the day you’ve just had.

I’ll post mine soon, just wanted to give others a chance first, and didn’t want it to be too long. Keep them coming, I’m really enjoying this.

When: August ?, 1976.

Where: Yosemite National Park, California.

What: Hiking from Glacier Point, past Nevada Falls, to camping right behind Half Dome. On acid.

I could relive that day throughout eternity.

Gee Whiz! If you’d have said that sooner, my post would have been much shorter! :o Shorten that whole day to the memory of the boys dipping ice cream with thier fingers and then the dipping of sticky boys in the lake and the feelings it illicited in the quiet moments afterwards.

Abby: Didn’t mean to step on your toes there. I just wanted to supply some general guidelines for those who wanted a specific time limit. Go ahead and make the whole day your memory. Picking one perfect day is every bit as reasonable as picking a perfect moment. It just seemed easier to find that one moment than a whole day.

So consider the rules amended to be a time to be determined by the individual, which can include up to a full day.

there’s another place that we will all end up for that behavior… :o
