I once read an article in New York magazine about a family with kid and dog who lived on the top of a skyscraper I don’t know how many stories up. The walls were floor to ceiling glass, and the pilots of low-flying small planes would wave at them as they went by. It was all white, all modern. Must have been like living on a cloud! I don’t know if I’d want to live in that apartment, but I would LOVE to see it! I’d pay $100 just to walk around and take a look.
If I could have any house, I would buy my late aunt’s ‘cottage’ on Wellsley Island, on the St. Lawrence River, near Alexandria Bay, NY. A-Bay was a swingin’ resort town (though small), and you could watch big ships go through the channel. Long bridges connected it to Wellsley Island and Canada… It was a summer camp for the whole family, a big wooden gingerbread Queen Anne style house with a big front porch with rocking chairs. We spent such happy times there! Eventually she sold it because of the taxes. I imagine that house would cost about a million dollars today, I should look it up.
