If you could magically eliminate one thing from earth…

And go back to magazine porn!?! Humbug!

DVD’s! I’m not suggesting a return to the stone age!

Rap music. I have not found any redeeming value in it.

Does plutonium have any non-military uses?

I think I would go with nuclear weapons. World War 3 fought with conventional weapons, or even chemical and biological weapons, would be horrific, but it would not threaten to exterminate the planet.

Sure. Plutonium is used for radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTG), which are used to power deep-space probes for long periods of time (decades in the case of the Voyager probes) and where solar power is insufficient because they are too far from the sun.

Plutonium (Pu-239) can also be used in fission reactors in a similar manner as uranium (U-235).

My wife would agree with you, Mr. Catfish.

Oooo, great word!

What’s a few billion deaths, and the sorrow of their loved ones, compared to having more room to stick in a beach umbrella, amiright?

If we’re counting abstract concepts or emotions, then “hate” seems to be the logical choice. Or maybe “violence”.

As far as actual “things”, mosquitoes come first to mind, though I endorse the expansion to bloodsucking bugs in general.

Bedbugs. We finally got rid of 'em, we hope.

I started a thread on this subject so as not to hijack this one.

Giant Pandas. Worthless. Political. (Awwwww! They’re so cute!) You can lose the Koalas too.

That’s a lot of traumatized and un-socialised orphaned children you’ve just created.

Can’t think how that could go badly …

I like it.

And we’d win- easily, hands down. Russia cant even whip Ukraine.

I concur.

Unfortunately, it, or worse, may happen anyway, with no magic involved.

I don’t think removing certain emotions will make things better. Emotions such as hate stem from survival instincts and self-protection.

Mosquitoes have many natural predators, such as bats, frogs, birds, fish and other insects. China wanted sparrows to be eliminated in the 1958 “Four Pests” campaign, which removed predators of grain-eating insects and resulted in massive crop failure and starvation.

The only things that can be safely eliminated have reduced importance to the cycle of life and are beneath our notice anyway.

Thanks. Was new to me. We are actually looking at a place to move to in a few years. The development is called Sonder.

If that community has that in mind, I like it.

Well since zar asm eliminated the “c,””zinc” has to be spelled with a “k.” As in, Warsh your hands in the wooder in the zink.

Good thing it’s just a whimsical question and not real, then.

OMG, I just saw a yellow Thing on my way home from getting groceries this morning.

Social media.

Reason. Just out of curiosity, wonder whether it would make a difference.
Then repeat with logic.
What, I’m only allowed one? OK, social media it is then.
