Jack Chick, author of Christian tracts, made a surprise purchase of some of the world’s best-loved comic strips and is spreading the gospel in typical Chick fashion through the Sunday funnies.

That’s one of the most unintentionally hilarious Garfield strips I’ve read in a long time.

“The comics still feature classic characters and are a great entertainment value,” said a King Features spokesman, noting that readers of Zippy the Pinhead will especially appreciate the new Chick sensibility.

I’m sitting here trying to come up with another strip whose fans would more obviously NOT appreciate the new Chick sensibility, and I can’t.

I have hated Garfield ever since Jim Davis the creator, admitted he created the comic strip with the intention of selling merchandise if it caught on. Well he certainly succeeded beyond his wildest belief didn’t he.
