If you don't subscribe to HBO, but are an Amazon Prime member...

…things just got more interesting. HBO is going to allow certain shows to be available on Amazon Prime for free:

Ugh, I wasn’t planning on re-upping my subscription this summer when the price goes up. This might change my mind…

Hell yeah. Even without Game of Thrones, this is a cool thing.

Oh man, HBO just slapped Netflix in the face with a leather glove and walked away!

Cool! I can go ahead & cancel HBO when Game of Thrones is done for the year. I’ve been a Prime customer for years–mostly for the shipping. Won’t make me drop Netflix, though…

Dammit! I just bought the entire series of Deadwood not more than 6 months ago! Could of saved myself a bundle had I known.

shrugs Most of that is on Netflix. Amazon Prime still hasn’t come up with anything that entices me to invest in a new box.

Most of that is on Netflix? Not the streaming part, that’s for sure.

Wow, now the $20 per year increase isn’t so bad! I’ve never seen most of those shows.

Am I wrong? We had both streaming and discs for a long time. I’m pretty sure Sopranos and Wire are streaming.

Nope, they’re not on Netflix streaming.

Dammit, I just finished paying Amazon for all five seasons of The Wire in my library. Still, it would be worth it for some of those other shows.

I wonder how exclusive they will be. Will the same shows be available via HBO’s own streaming service?

Last year, I watched Flight of the Conchords on HBO Go which curiously only offered it for streaming to PC/Mobile and not through HBO’s “on demand” cable service. I just connected the PC to my TV but I found it odd. Also, at the time it was set to expire in April 2013 though I haven’t checked since to see if it was added back into the availability. Point being, I wonder if they’ll have HBO programs via Amazon but not have them available via HBO.

This is all just me wondering personally – we have both Amazon Prime and HBO anyway.

And the DVDs are worth it for the commentaries and the extras.

I’ll keep HBO while GoT is airing but might drop it, now that I won’t need On Demand to rewatch the others.

I was going to do that anyway (drop HBO when my free months were up). Between this (and here’s hoping Amazon works out a better way to stream to Smart TVs) and my brother’s HBO subscription, I won’t need it. Now I just need a way to get Showtime for Homeland. GoT and Homeland are the only shows I’m interested in seeing (semi) real-time. Note to self - check if brother gets Showtime also…

I don’t think HBO, or any other premium cable channel, ever had shows streaming on Netflix. Even if I’m wrong, according to Sepinwall, the new deal is exclusive to Amazon Prime. Netflix will not be streaming HBO shows anytime soon.

Yay! Maybe I’ll FINALLY get to see The Sopranos.

My understanding is yes, these shows will still be available on HBO Go that comes with your HBO subscription.

Starz used to have a deal with Netflix where they would stream Starz original content, but that deal ended. The only HBO I’ve ever seen streaming is The Larry Sanders Show. I’m pretty sure it was Netflix, but there is a chance it was Hulu.

Apparently Entertainment Weekly is using some obscure definition of the term “full list” of which I am unfamiliar. Looks to me like it only lists a few examples.
