If you eat soap, would you have to go to the hospital?

A friend and I are mulling over a story, and for various reasons we’ve decided that this child is defiant enough that she woudl do what another friend did long before I knew him, when he was 12. Told to wash his mouth out with soap, he was given a little hand soap, and while his mom was away, he didn’t just touch his tongue to it like he was supposed to, ate it.

Now, my friend’s whole family is kind of silly, and the type where genetically it’s understandable he didn’t have to go tot he hospital. But, would you normally? Would they induce vomiting, would it be digested, or what?

This girl’s about 7.5, but the size of a 6 or 6.5 year old, so a hand soap would obviously be bigger in her mouth than in a 12 year old boy’s mouth.

Old-style soap would make you vomit it up. However, modern soap, made so that your eyes don’t tear up quite so much, your hands don’t wrinkle and crack and abrade quite so much, and your hairs don’t bleach quite so much won’t necessarily make you throw it up. I honestly don’t know what the various kinds of modern soap will do to you - it’s designed to be mostly non-irritating, but that doesn’t mean it’s not harmful.
