Then let me tell you how to design a clever handy dandy (mostly) free dog waterer.
I now have 3 dogs who go through a lot of water in a day. They are usually here alone during the day, so I had to either put out bigger or more water dishes. I selected an old roasting pan which worked great until puppy decided it would be big fun to jump in and splash around a bit until I had 3 gallons of water on my kitchen floor.
So I took a trip to the pet supply store and found that I can purchase an automatic water that will refill the bowel as it is emptied. Yes this could be mine for $30.
It was nothing but a 2 1/2 gallon jug turned upside down in a bowl supported by a ring to hold it upright.
Here’s my solution made entirely with things I already had on hand.
5 gallon water jug-got it.
Wrought iron type candle holder, like you set the glass globe in and it sorta flairs out at the bottom for more stability.
Place iron-now bottle- holder in pan, fill jug with water and turn it upside down in roaster pan.
Water will only come out to the level of how far the top of the bottle is from the bowl bottom.
Working like a magic charm. Jake isn’t interested in playing in water 2 inches deep. Ii ain’t mopping the kitchen 3 times a day, and the dogs are watered.
I gotta admit it looks a little ghetto right now and I’m gonna have a plexiglass “lid” made for it to support the bottle more securely, and I’ll probably paint it a little too. Food grade approved paint of course.
Of course I could have spent the $30, but it just seemed so wrong.
