You should see the complaining about the purple category in the Connections comments.

I’m not sure why people complain about a puzzle created by an American newspaper being too America-centric.

It makes me crazy. It’s my fault for reading them.

Where are the comments?

They are at the bottom of the hint page. There is a blue tab that says “comments.” You might need to have a NYTimes subscription to see them.

Never heard of a Chess Pie but other than that this one was pretty easy for me.

“Chess Pie” is “just pie” - think of the gooey part of a pecan pie, if you didn’t have pecans.

Thanks!

I’m late on commenting on today’s puzzle:

I saw purple pretty quickly. I tried to run it backwards, and I really thought yellow and green should have been flipped in terms of difficulty.

My college mascot!

All straightforward. I could have gotten them in any order, really. The red herrings were not very good.

I over-thought the categories for each of them, so what they actually were came as a surprise.

I saw all the endings and went for the birds. The final purple was a lot more random.

Kind of a mess today.

Perfect game for me today. The only minor challenge for me was figuring out that bugbear wasn’t in the “ending with animals” category.

Heh. Similar for me. I got Blue and Green quickly, then figured out what the Yellow category was, identifying three of them. Then I guessed that bugbear belonged there, because none of the other four were particularly fear-inducing.

At first glance, it looked like “Oops! All Purple!” But blue stood out. Actual purple was bullshit.

Thursday’s game: Annoyed the red herring was still there after I eliminated a category. Also there is one in Purple I completely do not understand.

Lots of bigger words, but nothing too tough. The one mistake was an accidental entry, but it did give me more information.

I thought blue was easier and green was actually harder even though I clicked them in the normal order. Didn’t see any red herrings, must have missed something.

Purple was utter pants. I saw what they were going for but rabe is in no way a homophone for rob unless you speak some weird dialect.
