I really don’t see how hard this is to grasp: The subject of Dinosaurs and Cave Men came up very briefly in school when I was under 11. I didn’t have any high school courses that I took that dealt with Prehistoric times. I’d see the occasional TV Show and movies which featured both Dinosaurs and Cave Men existing at the same time so naturally I assumed this was fact and didn’t think any more on the subject because it had no bearing on my life. Conversations over Prehistoric History just didn’t occur in my everyday life. So until I posted this Topic, I had erroneously assumed my entire life that Dinosaurs and Cave Men existed in the same time frame. While I don’t take movies and TV at face value, there were enough different ones showing Dinosaurs and Cave Men in the same time line that I just accepted this as fact. End of story.
In regards to the answers of this question, I’m not criticizing them and I’m grateful for the answers but together they’re not meaty enough to incorporate into say a 300-500 blog post, that I would consider a good read for my purposes. I will tomorrow- I don’t want to abuse my welcome on this Board by posting too many questions at once, ask a time travel and health related question that no matter what the answer would make an informative read.
In regards to my blog, yes its called Gifts and Free Advice- a crappy name but my software programmer said I should incorporate the Blog as part of my Gift Store and hence the lame in retrospect name, Gifts and Free Advice. I haven’t change the Blogs name because its become a “Brand Name”. I’m only making a couple of hundred bucks a month on it and my online stores which I plug on each post. Oh the URL if I can say it is, www.GiftsandFreeAdvice.com/free_advice/ My most popular posts are “Superheroines in Bikinis”
Exactly. It’s the old conundrum about the fact that children generally look like their parents, but new species still come into existence.
In other words, it’s a continuum. A pair of Homo habilis parents didn’t abruptly have a Homo ergaster child. Instead, it was a continuous progression. For this reason, it’s possible to have many, many intermediates who may or may not have their own species or subspecies name.
Back when I was teaching, one of the general themes in science that occurred to me is that while we like to put things into categories, the world around us is more of a continuum. Trying to pin down exactly when one species evolves into another is like trying to pin down where yellow turns into green on the spectrum of visible light.
Well if it is, he’s confused about more than cavemen and dinosaurs. In this one post aloneit seems believes that:
Falcon Heene did go up in a giant balloon (but thankfully did not perish).
Richard Heene makes a good case that there is or was Life on Mars and that the United States Government is covering it up. “It really is kind of scary as the US Government may really be trying to cover life on Mars”
The single bullet theory is a cover up. “Remember the “Single Bullet Theory” which the Government reported as fact!”
Nontheless, Add me to list of posters welcoming you to our boards.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I think that the reason why everybody keeps commenting on this is that they find it hard to believe that any educated, well-read person could make it to adulthood without being aware of this fact.
Speaking for myself, I knew this fact before I turned 8 years old.
And it doesn’t have anything to do with what was covered in school. I’m quite sure I didn’t take any classes entitled “Dinosaurs and Cave Men,” nor did I take any “high school courses…that dealt with Prehistoric times,” yet I still managed to learn this fact.
In all seriousness, have you never been to a science museum in your life? Have you never watched any science programs on TV? In all your 50+ years, have you never read a copy of *National Geographic * in a doctor’s office?
It’s hard enough to define whether contemporary organisms are in the same species or not, and by the time you get to the subspecies level, it’s almost completely meaningless. The most common definition of “species” is that two organisms are the same species if they can breed to produce fertile offspring, and routinely do so in the wild. But of course, no modern population breeds with anything from more than about a century ago, so you have to make guesses about what they would do, if they coexisted. And two subspecies in the same species will, by definition, mix together (because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be the same species), so the edges will get really blurry.

*I’ll bet that George W. Bush knows that humans and dinosaurs never co-existed, though.
I’m not sure about Sarah Palin. * * *
Please keep this shit off of GQ, even in in a hijack.
Well maybe you find it difficult to believe that an educated person could believe for 50 or so years that Dinosaurs and Cavemen existed at the same time but I did. And yes I went to museums as a kid, etc., but it just wasn’t that important to me or my reference of things. It doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve lived a pretty good life, had hot women in my life, a decent easy job, etc. and I’m not going to fret that I mistakenly believed that Dinosaurs lived during the same time as Cavemen. Had I ever discussed this in the last 40 years with anyone of course I would not have thought that was so. I just didn’t. It’s no big deal to me, sorry.
Leo Bloom, if you see a post that you think is a problem, the right course is to report it and let the moderators deal with it. As is was, that post had already been reported, and I addressed the issue back in post 64. So there’s no reason to comment on it again here. No warning issued.

PS. I also note that you mixed up quoting Hershon4. The first part of the quote is by him, the second by robby. Please try to keep quotes straight when quoting other posters.
And while I’m at it, robby’s post should have gotten a note as well.
If you think about it, we’d probably never do this much splitting if fossils weren’t so rare. Imagine that we had a skull from, say, every 100 years (or even 1,000 years) in the same general area going back 500k years. How would you draw the species line?
Any thoughts on **PlainJane’s **post #83? Or my post asking what is not “meaty” about the responses you have gotten in this thread, many of which layout a lot of thinking - based on known data about topics related to your question - about evolution, species differentiation, Nature vs. Nurture implications?
Oh even though I’m a White Male I feel like Shirley Sherrod at USDA by Plain Jane’s attack which if he had checked on the date that the Balloon Boy blog was originally written was before the Hoax was revealed. I think I wrote it the day of the incident or soon after. As a general rule I don’t update blog posts though I’ve updated a couple but did not feel the need to bother with this one. But I don’t blame Plain Jane, I probably wouldn’t have checked the date either. To be honest, I’m sure I’ve made mistakes in things I’ve posted but the aim is traffic, not getting everyone to agree with what I post, and with more traffic comes more money. The blog just supplements my income. My best month was in December when I made almost $1,000 but I’ve only made a few hundred a month recently.
I think at this point we’re getting away from the question in the OP, and into too much discussion of your blog itself. So let’s get back to the question at hand.
You weren’t just calling for him to be civil. You said he was being pissy, which was pretty uncivil in itself.
If you think a poster is out of line, report the post and let a moderator deal with it.
If you thought he deserved a warning, you should have reported his posts. And after looking through them, I don’t see anything there that deserves an official warning.
Ok. If you have anything else to say about my moderating, you are welcome to take it up in ATMB.
Attack? How is representing your views an attack? If everyone on these boards thought alike this would be a dull place. BTW, I did notice the date. It was obvious to me that the balloon wasn’t anywhere near big enough to lift a child even before the hoax was revealed. If you choose not to update your blog that’s cool with me but not doing so can and will lead to confusion.
For the record, I did not find it obvious that the OP meant H. sap sap, and directed him to Wiki to find the proper terminology. He clearly did not know enough about the subject to understand any answers yet.
