If you're serious about saving Enterprise...

I’ve taped the various STAR TREKs for years to keep them. ENTERPRISE is worse than VOYAGER and STAR TREK '66.

They used the Borg and Ferengi even tho they didn’t appear until TNG.

STAR TREK is played out. It will live on in reruns forever. Let it go at that.

BABYLON 5 was better anyway.

READ THE THREAD RULES, PEOPLE!

[sarcasm]thank you for your comments[/sarcasm]

This is a fan thread only. For one very specific purpose.
Negative comments can go in your own damn thread.

To be fair to all, and to make it easier for Pakleds who don’t read with comprehension, post negative comments here.

Who?

When ever you mock me, I kill a kitten.

I never realized that felinus domesticus were an endangered species.

Run, SPOT, RUN!!!

I see your Spot and raise you Porthos.

Which is why we need to save Enterprise!

I like the show and all, but there’s not enough panda for me…
if it gets cancelled maybe Jolene can go into naughty films or such…

sorry that me sentences keep ending in …

so much potential. I’ll watch till I stop I suppose…

To SUPPORT the show (*ahem), click on the links posted in this thread.

If you are not interested in supporting the show, GO FIND ANOTHER THREAD.

There are legimate issues many of us have with ENT. Please post them in my complaints thread.

According the correspondence I’ve had with certain UPN and Trek people, the most good, the heaviest weight, the most easily pointed to show of support is actual letters (snail mail) to UPN and ENT sponsors. The above sites have real life addresses for these people.

So, like the thread title states, if you’re serious about this cause, it requires some work. And a show of support is needed for those who are already working hard.

In these letters, mention that you watch the eps as they air, so the commercials are indeed being seen. Mention your purchases of DVDs, fan merchandise, movie tickets of past shows, etc…

Acknowledge that the sponsors of the show are appreciated and, if writing to a sponsor, mention a specific product or ad.

It worked during the 60s. It might work now. But we won’t know if no one tries.

If you don’t like the show, fine. That’s your choice. And you won’t need to worry or bother with this.

For you fans, though… You hard core Trekkers, Trekkies, and Nanites of all ages, let’s get going!

Here is a copied and pasted message from an ENT Project email, RE: a suggested boycott of UPN.

  1. Not many people are watching UPN anyway. Yes, they did do
better in this last rating period but I suspect they’ll find a way
to credit America’s Top Model and blame Enterprise for something.

  2. If UPN cancels Enterprise, they are saying, effectively, that
they don’t want you (the Sci-Fi fan) to watch them! How many genre
programs have they gone through in the past few years? What
happened to the promise to keep Jake 2.0 on through the entire
season? My guess, and humble opinion, is that UPN doesn’t want the
    Star Trek fan anymore.

Here is my suggestion to you if you want to write to Mr. Moonves
about a boycott in your Thursday letter.

Promise him that if he does not find a way to have Enterprise on the
air next season, you will make it your life’s mission to avoid every
Viacom owned TV station and all merchandise associated with Viacom
programming, and will encourage friends and family to do the same.

That means: no CBS, MTV, VH1, BET, Nickeleodon (spelling?), TV Land,
GAS, the Noggin, etc. You’ll cancel your subscription to
Showtime. You’ll refuse to buy your kids any SpongeBob or Dora the
Explorer merchandise, and so on.

This is a bit tangential, but I don’t think it’s a complete hijack. If it’s too far off-topic, I apologize.

Do letter-writing campaigns like this work? Are there examples of shows that have been saved by such campaigns?

Most of the tactics laid out here seem sound: set a positive tone, mention the revenue they will gain from you by continuing the show, etc. But I can’t help but wonder if networks are sometimes swayed by vocal fans, or if they rely solely on ratings and ad revenue.

The Waltons and maybe a few others.

Don’t forget the letter campaign for the original Star Trek (1966-1969). It was going to be cancled after Season II. A huge letter writing campaign got it a 3rd season. The next campaign failed to secure any more seasons. Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe the first one worked.

well I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who likes the show …

I’m sorry but this horse has been beat far too long after its death. Let This terrible incarnation die. I’ve tried to like the last two series but the the kettle’s empty and the steam is gone. Give Trek a nice ten to fifteen year hiatus and then see if it can be resurected properly.

Enterprise is just a bad show. For every good episode there is a whole season of garabge. The character arcs are poor and the story lines really go where all have gone before.

Please forget there is a Star Trek in front of the title and turn off your sets. We have three pretty good seires and a handful of movies to still enjoy. Keep Trek alive outside the TV field and be patient for someone new to come along to revitalize a brutalized franchize.

Hell if they can bring back Battlestar Galactica anything is possible.

God damn it, people. Read the posts before posting to a thread.

RE: letter writing campaigns…Yes, they have worked in the past. And it’s easier to keep a show going while it’s still in production than to try to jump start it once it’s gotten the ax. That’s why the ENT Project started a year ago.

It’s hard dealing with people like Moonves, who looks at the money and the numbers rather than at anything else. It’s a rough ride with UPN, which has not gotten behind the show to support and really promote it. But we’re in this to the bitter end.
