If you've enjoyed Iraq, you'll love Iran

Hey, maybe much of the Muslim world had it right all along. In this corner, weighing in at 280 million, sporting the red, white, and blue, THE GREAT SATAN!

Seriously, if we ever had the moral high ground, it’s down to a crappy pair of platform shoes at the moment, if that.

You have to remember. A draft doesn’t mean automatic soldiers.

They will still need to be trained.

At least enough to tell the front from the rear of the rifles…

I realize that Reeder. It’s just the guys are so sneaky and duplicitous I’ve gotten to where I see them as being capable of anything.

Let’s do that right away. After all, Bush’s bombing of the chemical weapons factories in Iraq was really effective. As was Clinton’s bombing of the Aspirin factory in Sudan. :wally

I see Iran taking the initiative and escalating Iraq into a proxy war with the US. Who knows what Syria and indeed SA and Afghanistan might do?

The semantic question is whether the US is now an imminent or a grave threat to Iran, thereby obligating the Iranians to take whatever action they should choose appropriate. To general acclamation I assume.

I also hate to throw cold water on the party…but Hirsch is full of shit.

This kind of crap plays well to the crowd that desperately wants to hear it and continue to believe that Bush is a puppet whose strings are pulled by Cheney and Rumsfeld, et al, while they are not busy rubbing their hands with glee over a world map and cackling about world conquest.

Here are a few inconvienent facts for many of you.

The government of Iran is hostile to the United States, most of its people are not. My guess is the plan is to wait the government out.

A draft is not feasable for many reasons, two of the primary ones being the death of political popularity and the problem of creating a schism in the armed forces between draftees and volunteers.

If an attack on Iran does happen, it will be because the their continued insistance on developing nuclear weapons. Bush has made clear that this will not be permitted…and if we don’t do it, Isreal might. And to answer the question of why we get to decide who has them and who doesn’t? Because we can.

Yeah I kinda enjoyed Iraq. Looking forward to Iran. Perhaps I should try to arrange so I have a vacation during the most interesting part.

Dude:
I am amazed at the auditory quality of this place. I could swear you were an echo from approximately two years ago. I had to re-read your post to see if you had typed Iraq or Iran.

I love the irony of Hirsch coming out and saying that the US military is preparing for doing some damage to Iran, followed by an amazingly detailed denial from the pentagon that isn’t really much of a denial (and since I think Hirsch is Jewish, isn’t it a bit weird that the Pentagon denial hints that his report is anti-semitic?), followed by a statement from Bush that he won’t rule out bombing Iran. Its kind of like:

Brer Hirsch: You’re planning on grabbing the tar baby!
Brer Pentagon/Rumsfield: Am not!
Brer Bush: Well, we won’t rule it out.

Nice.

:: vigorous applause ::

That line is simply too good not to acknowledge.

He was full of shit with the Abu G. torture stuff too.
oh wait…

This seems pretty clear:
Bush Tells Troops ‘Much More Will Be Asked of You’

Are you sure about that? I mean, we just re-elected a mass murderer who claims to hear voices in his head. At this point, I think Bush could nuke New York City and the dumbfucks would say, praise jeebus!

  1. If Hirsch is full of shit, then you should be able to come up with some proof refuting his allegations. Produce it!

  2. I’m inclined to believe that Mr. Bush takes recommendations made by his top advisors very seriously. That does not constitute being a puppet in their hands.

  3. It must be sheer coincidence that companies which are or were closely connected to top figures in this Administration seem to be benefitting substantially from the wars it’s gotten us engaged in.

  4. Yes, the Iranian government does not like our policies very well. Surprise – Serbia didn’t like Austria-Hungary’s very well 91 years back, either. Sabre-rattling in the neighborhood tends to upset people.

  5. Mr. Bush could push through a draft now if he made a cogent case for needing one that convinced his Republican supporters. And he would divide the country bitterly if he tried it.

  6. Don’t even think of playing the Weapons of Mass Destruction card again. The American people are not completely brain dead yet.

  7. Your last two sentences are utterly vile. I’m an only child, and nearly was never conceived at all, because someone else decided to play the “Might makes right” game. I am disgusted, chagrined, and apologetic to the rest of the world at being a citizen of a country that thinks it can do it now – and consider it loathsome that you would say it, even in the Pit. (And I hope there are some moral Republicans around that will back me up on that.)

Probably both sides…

If Bush does invade Iran… he is as dumb as we make him out to be… but I’d not bet on that. He will probably just resort to bombing and raiding… and naturally using the word “Freedom” like a whore.

So a War seems unfeasible now… some strong armed tactics using bombs isn’t.

That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. I’m sure the Iranian people have completely forgiven the United States overthrowing its one legitimate, democratic, secular government and replacing it with a brutal dictator for 20 years.

That’s not to say that Iranians want to nuke the United States or commit terrorist bombings in the DC Mall. But that’s because they’re not murdering fucks, not because they like the United States. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Iranian people would love to see the United States flee the region with its tail between its legs.

I think Evil One made an error in drawing the connection to the United States. He probably meant something more along the lines of “the government of Iran is strict fundamentalist - like many terrorists - whereas many of its people don’t want to continue that.”

Then I suppose it wouldn’t be too much for him to come back and tell us what he meant. For that matter, perhaps you could tell us where you get your information from, unless its supposition (not bad in itself, but you should clarify).

CJ

That’s a fair analysis, but I don’t think that’s what Evil One meant. I think he believes that the Iranian people are pro-US.

Like many people, he confuses the fact that the Iranian people would like Western style human rights and democracy with people liking the United States and Europe themselves.

I second this ! Probably spot on.
