I’m not a Bush-supporter so much as I am an anti-anti-Busher. One doesn’t need to be a Bush-supporter to believe that some operations need to be secret to be successful.

So are you against the idea of secret operations in Iran or against the idea of secret operations in Iran managed by the current admin?
…from the Hersh article.
Way back when, I asked Brutus for reasons why he thought we invaded Iraq, besides the WMD reason, and one he gave had to do with surrounding Iran. I remember thinking the same thing at the time; it’s obvious if you look at a map.
So, they may be a bit more, shall we say, realistic about what it takes to invade and occupy a country, but that doesn’t mean Iran isn’t in their gunsights, and I think it’s pretty obvious it has been for a long time.
Well, given their masterful successes at every operation they’ve conducted - from capturing bin Laden to being completely correct about the reaction Iraqi citizens would have on being invaded - at this point it’s mostly them being run by these incompetents.
While I have no problem with secret operations in principle, I have yet to see very many “secret operations” kept secret for some reason other than because the operation was illegal, immoral and something that the general public would not support if they knew about it.
Yes, and? They’re not going to give Hezbollah or Hamas a nuclear weapon or even the materials to build a dirty bomb. Why? Because all fingers would immediately point to them and they be wiped out.
Do I have to draw you a diagram? Or can I count on you to start using your brain at some point?
They’ll supply it to someone anyway, and then the finger will be pointed at them it’ll just take longer for it to happen.
Use your fucking brains people, the Iranian leadership wants to destroy Israel, dominate the Middle East and call the shots against the West, and will do anything to achieve this end. Nothing they do is completely innocent, and we must do all we can to destory their regime internally and externally.
The Israelis had better get serious about making peace with the Palestinians. Now that the evil bogeyman (Arafat) is dead, what excuse do they need? Now is the time to make a bold stroke, and end the so-far endless violence between Isral and the Palestinians. One would hope that Sharon would realize just how thin the ice (he is treading on) is!
The Iranian leadership doesn’t actually much care about Israel, aside from its primary value as a “street cred” bogeyman. Sure, they’d like to dominate the middle east, but so what? So do Syria, Egypt, Iraq, etc. They’re not going to risk nuclear annihilation to get it.
Nothing they do may not be completely innocent, but nothing we do is completely innocent, either. Welcome to the real world, kid. The idea that we need to destroy regimes, using any means necessary, is how we wound up with the theocracy in Iran in the first place. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to learn from mistakes and not repeat them.
Reverse it: So the solution is for the US to dominate the Middle East, call the shots against the East and do anything to achieve this end ? Naturally everthing the US does is innocent and so forth… by implication.
Does anything in your world get solved without violence and using force ?
