A function of wisdom is to eliminate Ignorance. Right?
What is the cause of Happiness? What is the cause of misery?
Fundemental thoughts of the past 10,000 years…why did religion have to be believed in, in such a reletively small increment of that time? This is Great Debates isn’t it?
Ignorance is replaced by correct understanding. There is no longer any mistake in one’s perception. The delusions are gone.
Just a couple thoughts to get my mind off current situations…
What exactly are you debating here?
I was a lot happier before I learned that ignorance is bliss.
Over the years you gain more and more knowledge and less and less ignorant (one hopes). But ignorance is also bred. I know some people who are still quite prejudice based soly on the color of ones skin. I mean come on! Wouldn’t you think people would lose that ignorance over the years? I see it in kids, teens, adults and the elderly. It still amazes me when I see prejudiced people in this ‘modern’ society…That is one of the only instance of Ignorance is Bliss that I like to admit to.
So your point is, some people learn, and some don’t?
Yes Yes I know it is quite obvious. But sometimes the simpler things are actually the hardest to concretely explain.
Is this even a debate?
Maybe it is. If you’re a bhuddist, then being ignorant certainly isn’t bliss. Having no ignorance at all is true bliss.
But, if you’re ignorant, and you don’t know this, than i guess it doesn’t matter.
I thought this was a VI v. emacs debate.

Ditto - and a reference to my blissful near-ignorance of both, and how much more blissful I would be if my ignorance was total.
(I use jed ;))
Phlosphr, the problem we’re having here is that there are basically three arguments. Freshman Logic 101:
All X are in Y.
Some X are in Y.
No X are in Y.
You are saying that Some X (People) are in Y (those who can learn).
Nobody’s going to disagree with your point, because then they’d have to argue that either All People Learn, and we’ve all met people who don’t fit in that bucket, or that No People Learn, which is just as obviously false.
If you want to focus in on a more specific topic to debate, we may be able to come up with some contrasting opinions, but as it stands, your subject for debate is like you’re saying, “Some grass is green.” Well, yeah…
Well I agree Ethilrist. I wrote this rather late one night. And was just expressing thoughts. I should have put this IMHO instead of here. Or made the points more debatable, so I agree with you.
