You can’t. Fuck off.
I’m so glad we white folk are finally gettin them black people straightened out with our sage naming advice! Aren’t you black folk grateful? You never knew that names like Shoquonda were so off-putting to us Carols and Bobs! Now you know. I expect to see a lot more black Susans, Karens, Jennifers, Jasons, Marks, and Christophers in the future.
Thank you for your time.
Of course, I might mention this is really going to fuck up the way we handle job applications. Shit.
If tarpal acknowledges that these names are almost always African American and he’s ‘paid well’ to ‘find the best candidate’ and avoid (And I quote) those ‘wit attitude’, then I can only take it to mean that he automatically knows that black people AREN’T the best candidate for the job.
Interesting.
How many of you offended people are actually black? Ok.
Now. How many of you are bleeding heart white folks who enjoy nothing more than getting your panties in a bunch about a fucking joke?
That’s sorta what I assumed.
You know, I don’t think my post came off the way I meant it, and I’m not sure how to clarify it.
So I’ll just add that the comments in that thread piss me off, especially tarpal and TheRochester’s remarks but others, too.
I didn’t know Trent Lott was a Doper.
Zowie, I didn’t figure that a post of mine from somewhere else would end up here. For what it is worth, Laquequaquan has a beautiful, yet bizarre, name. Thanks to Tarpal, I can now imagine her having a very hard life having to deal with ignorant, dingleberry-laden, fanny-heads later.
See, I thought his point was that those with made-up names come from low-income families which automatically guarantees that they’ll be Stupid and have Attitudes. Because everyone knows that those poor folk are ingnorant.
I wonder if he throws out the Applications for Wendys and Jennys too?
And we all know where assuming gets us.
New game, TheRochester:
Which of these people are black and which are white?
Twana
LaTonya
Garrick
Janet
The first two are white and the second two are black. Your stupid little “game” is neither amusing nor accurate. Fuck off.
I would like it if I wasn’t bunched in with Tarpal. My comments were just jokes, it wasn’t true, it was a bit that I stole from a morning radio show.
I really doubt that tarpal was serious, but if he was, that’s clearly racist, and I don’t fit with that description.
Nevertheless, I don’t see why you guys always have to get your feathers ruffled about stuff that doesn’t friggin matter. You must get some sort of pleasure out of it, sorta like the pleasure I get from getting a rise out of you lefties.
Nice, and timely too! Made me chuckle.
You know, you say it was a joke and then you say that such jokes don’t “friggin matter”. They don’t matter to you, because they don’t effect you.
That’s ignorant. Think about who they might actually effect, then tell me that it doesn’t “friggin matter”.
There are jokes that may be un-pc and quite hilarious Rochester, but provided that it’s in the right forum. Personally, I think that it’s in poor taste to submit the jokes that you did on a message board such as this, where you are only fanning the flames of the incredibly demented rhetoric that is being posted in that thread.
Oh Rochester, I guess you’re right. Discriminating Employers who select applicants based on race is no big deal. Why can’t we whites just sit around and make fun of the colored folks like we used to? Stupid human rights, ruining all of our fun.
Let’s all get together and have some eggnog, what do you say?
:wally
Amusing? Well, depends who you ask, I guess. Accurate? Since this place is so big on “cites” here is where I got them:
Black Baby Names
Houseplants
Fuck off? Wow. You really stuck it to me. Bravo.
So far, this is the only argument that holds any water. I appreciate your informed retort.
I find myself wondering if TheRochester’s last sentence
qualifies him for the following action:
I’m a bit hesitant, so I’ll hold off for now.
Anyone else feel he could benefit from some counseling?
Dis da pit, yo.
If “ignorant racist motherfuckers!” can slide, I think I’ll be safe.
I don’t quite see how that statement fits into the rule violations though.
They don’t just do it with “black” names either. My husband’s name is Jaime. Pretty common in CA, not so in Utah. When he was applying for a job in Utah, every single place turned him down. This was odd because it was right before the busiest time of the year for these stores (Christmas and the best Skiing time), so he “anglicizied” his name to Jim and reapplied. Same thing on the applications, didn’t change anything but his name—and over 1/2 of them called him back.
So I just want to say that Tarpal’s attitude disgusts me, and I hope he soon learns the errors of his ways when his hiring policies come back to bite him in the ass.
