It’s a browser based, real-time, resource allocation, MMORPG (or, as I have called them, Mighty Morphin’ Ranger Power Games), Civ type thingy. I started last night because the computer doesn’t suck enough time out of my life as it is.
I’m hoping that I can build a nice little Empire without having to fight too much, so I’m looking for a real strong defensive build, kind of like I like to do in Age of Empires. So far I’m such a tiny little nothing that nobody has noticed me.
Soooo, anyone else playing? If so, got any advice?
I’ve been playing for over a year. I won’t say which world I’m on, but you should stick to Alpha as the others are basically dying. I’m not on Alpha. New worlds get a spurt of activity then die off. Some people enjoy the building up phase; I enjoy more the mature game.
There’s lots of good advice - some of it even from me - on the Ikariam boards. But some quick advice for you:
If you’re starting on a Crystal island, start over.
Marble gives you the best start. Then Wine.
Every pitch that does not have another use should have a Warehouse on it.
The Carpenter and the Architect are your best friends.
Don’t hoard until you can build a decent-sized army.
Once you get a Shipyard, make sure you have at least one warship. This means that your opponent must send a navy, giving you extra time to react.
Invite occupation: it’s an excellent way for a powerful player to help a smaller one. Just make sure you have enough warehouses. You get 10% of the loot.
You’re on a wine island? Don’t destroy your colony. Wine is second best for starting. Just make sure your first colony - once you’ve researched Expansion - is on a marble island.
