"Ike" = Dwight D?

I find it so ironic that anyone (and it may just be that lone nut congresswoman from Houston) should be so upset that hurricanes are mostly given “Anglo” names. My daughter’s actual name is Katrina. She was six years old when that hurricane hit. To this day hearing the phrase “Katrina victims” upsets her greatly, and she takes it quite personally that her name should be associated in so many peoples’ minds with a national catastrophe.

Ironically, “Ike” was my grandfather’s nickname – his birth name was Isaac, BTW.

I feel for your daughter. I’ve wondered if being namesakes of hurricanes would bother people, especially kids. My adult daughter’s married name is Susan Smith. Remember her?
Nice place Austin, by the way. Only place in Texas I could live. Too hot, though. :slight_smile:

Yeah, too bad that “Keyshawn” wasn’t in the name list in 2005.

Oooh, I can’t wait for a Hurricane Mohammed. That’ll whip up a storm.

Yeah, I can hear the Muslim woman (half of the owners) at Fred’s Market now;
“Oh those Christians, trying to whip up a storm”.
