I have 2 phones. A regular one that was my daughter’s old IPhone. Piece of junk. But it gets calls and texts. Mostly from medical stuff.
I don’t block stuff on it. Because you never know what number a doctors office or lab thing is gonna use. I don’t need to miss these.
But the phone gets loads of spam and phishing notifications.
Aggravating, but I don’t have to look at it much.
My sooper-seekret phone I have filters on.
It’s really not so secret, anymore.
So I am cleaning out the crap on the iPhone. And there’s a text.
It was to my real name. No medical thing would come today.
I decided to open it.
Ms. Beckdawrek-
As you are a n****r, you are scheduled to work at picking cotton at the nearest plantation. A van will collect you.
Thank you,
???
As I’m kinda not in a condition to do field work, I’m pretty sure they’ll get 1/2 a day outta me. At best.
Seems like a waste of time to send a van all the way out here for one scrawny, sickly woman.
Ivy said, there’s no cotton plantations around here.
Not to mention cotton has already been harvested this year. By machines.
(I realize this is crap some idiot did on purpose to cause problems. I’m not seriously worried about it.)
I was alarmed to see the racist wording. And my name up top.
I avoided the news on Tuesday and Wednesday because I was nervous and then devastated. On Thursday, I scanned the headlines. This new story was so absurd that I had to read it to convince myself it’s true. As you found out, it is.
My DIL is a licensed Investigator. She researches online stuff for insurance companies.
She said it’s unsearchable by the information available. It’s just a set of numbers.
The Justice Department, and various states, are investigating it, and working to track down the instigators. This AP story indicates that the people behind it used VPNs, and numerous phone numbers, to attempt to cover their tracks. It’ll be very interesting to see if they can actually track anyone down.
Right. And that’s pretty much the only people who could have a chance at tracking it down. But when someone says “police department” they aren’t talking about the FBI or the NSA. This feels like troll farm activity using information leaked to the dark web. Certainly nothing that can be handled lower than the federal level
Even if the local department can’t do the full investigation on their own, they can still gather information, like who was targeted, and pass that on to the FBI. I.e., “following up” on it.
