"I'll be in my bunk" -- origin?

Wild Boys?

I think the “I’ll Be In My Bunk” mug would be great for Jim, since he likes to sleep a lot.

I loved that line in the original series; hell, I loved almost every line from Jayne. I require significant doses of Adam Baldwin on my tv, dammit!

Manny Peoples think that.

Did I win the thread?

My first and only encounter with that was Jayne on Firefly. Other than, you know, people repeating it in forums, in which case I never got an impression that they weren’t quoting Jayne.

ETA: Wow I’m surprised to see that it was the first reference. I’m not sure whether to be glad (Joss Whedon is a relatively original writer) or disappointed (you made me think Joss was referencing some famous earlier quote).

Then I hope you’re a loyal Chuck fan!

I had no idea it was a pop-culture reference at all. I’m actually a little disappointed (but not much). I think it’s funny because it’s a phrase that in a literal sense is so innocuous and yet the salaciousness is immediately obvious, not because it’s from a TV show (of course explaining things in big words always kills the funny).

But perhaps for the benefit of those who abhor this obnoxious SDMB catchphrase, we can come up with something less offensive, like “hold on while I rub one out” or “pardon me while I manipulate my penis until ejaculation results.”

Joe Montana: “I’ll be in my room masturbating.”

…manipulate my penis until it ensues?

I think I saw it in a Navy movie, maybe with Jack Nicholson.

Firefly, no?

By the time I saw the series… no, by the time I heard of the series,… I’d been seeing the phrase in use in the Dope for quite a while.

Then again, I’m a furriner from a country where series like that one get aired at wonky hours, if ever.

“In a manner similar to a person who has an incestuous relationship with his own mother” ?

Oh, I am. He’s awesome in that, too. Doesn’t get enough screentime, though.

I can’t believe everyone is attributing this to a recent TV series. Every guy was saying this at the college I went to a couple decades ago. The typical pronunciation was: “Ah be in mah bunk.” I have no idea what the accent was supposed to be – kind of ghetto, I guess. But some guys made it sound more like Ahh-nold. I don’t like to think of the Terminator pleasuring himself. What kind of a devastating shot must that be? You’ll put your eye out!

It got that treatment here, too. Which is a large part of why it ended up canceled after a half a season.

Wow, that’s anti-fun :frowning:

Thread winner right there.
