I work for a college I&TS department, and we’ve been inundated by the realphx virus/spyware. So I made up a web page that gave information on how to clean the virus, and even created a script to do it automatically.
I noticed that the page was getting a lot of hits, so just for the hell of it, I went to Google and typed in “realphx” and “clean.”
My page came up #1. I was so surprised that I double checked that I somehow didn’t tell it to search our own website. I’ve also seen that when you just sear “realphx” on Google, that page is listed as #4.
Hey, we are an elite bunch !!!
My website www.1728.com has many pages that show up #1 on Google.
Just tested a page - type in “Quadratic Equation” - exact phrase and I’m number one. (There are others I’m sure).
Anyway, congrats to us all !!!
It is a nice ego trip isn’t it ??
Be careful with your assumptions that you’re number 1. Google periodically re-indexes sites and changes the algorithm in a process referred to as the “Google dance.” It’s going on right now. You might find VERY different results based on the server being used.
Try the tool at and see if you’re showing up with the same ranking on all of the different datacenters: http://googledance.seochat.com/

That’s why I checked at least 1 page on my website before I posted. Sure, I know Google positions “bounce around” periodically, but a lot of my webpages are #1 or close to it.
Ironic website story Every now and then I test Google to see where I stand in certain categories. Quite recenlty someone stole one of my calculators (no credit to me of course).
To add insult to injury, HIS site was #1 for that calculator and I was #3. I believe Google has to do some serious rethinking about the way they rank websites.
I’m numbers one AND two if you type “msts illinois” (w/o quotes). I haven’t had to time to work on that site or any of its projects in forever, though.
I’ve tried this before as well. When I type my name in, I come up as #1 and several others, but they are links to stories I’ve written for the newspaper I work for.
