I'm 30 today

You are so not old, if only because if YOU are old, what the heck am I!?!

Plus, you look young and act young and think young. Hey, is that a new shirt you have on today? Looks great! And I love what you’ve done with your hair, that purple color is really fetching.

(and no, I’m not just being nice to you because I turn 40 this year. Nope. I’d never do that, neva!)

Happy belated! How’d it go? Any momentary panic? Any non-momentary panic?

I turned 30 a few months ago - I do feel slightly different, but not in a bad way. May your 30s be wonderful.

Upon further reflection of possibly the greatest birthday greeting to ever be given, I have decided that this little gem needs to be turned into a card.

About Turning 30.
I had a harder time turning 30 than 40.

As the clock neared midnight, when it turned over to make it offical that I was now 30, my stomach just locked up tight and my brain froze. It was really weird, because I am not that attached to age issues, nor do I suffer panic attacks at all.

About 5 minutes into it, my husband rolls over and presents me with a little velvet box. I had been wanted quite desperately to get a treadmill for this big number to help perserve my youthful bod that I worked hard at snort…

I muttered, " Ohh, the world’s smallest treadmill, huh?"

I received a lovely pair of small diamond earrings. (Which I love but hardly wear as I have developed issues with gold posts in my ears. WAHHHHHH!)

For my 31, I bought a treadmill. ( Which is now banned to the basement as it always mocks me, like the recumbent bike, the jump rope and the weight set.)

My fat ass, let me show you it.

Wow. Thanks, everyone, for appreciating that post.

It was really little more than a pre-caffeine brain fart.

Maybe I should try to write a novel before tomorrow’s shower.

You guys do know that tdn blatantly ripped off Monty Python there, right? Not to diminish the genius of his post, though. I am a huuuuge Python fan.

My birthday was super-swell!

  • I had the day off work.
  • I got tons of well wishes on Facebook (gotta love FB and their birthday reminders).
  • This boy I am really into sent me sweet texts all day (having someone warm to cuddle when you’re 30 = awesome).
  • I took myself out to lunch at the Pizza Hut buffet (totally goofy thing to do that no one would ever want to do with me).
  • I had my hair highlighted and cut (I’ve been letting it grow out for 6 months and needed a LOT cut - plus the gray covered).
  • My mom came in and paid for all the hair stuff.
  • My roommate sent me flowers.
  • My cousin stopped by (while I was out) and left me two bottles of liquor.
  • My parents gave me some money, plus mom got me those super-fancy cupcakes which I shared with everyone.
  • My brother got me the new Pearl Jam Ten re-release, remix and Unplugged set. drool
  • My bro and sis-in-law took me out to the area’s finest fancy steak place, and I had a $40 NY Strip. I also had some in-house-made limoncello!
  • Tonight my two best friends are taking me to the Tribe game. They got awesome seats. My dad is coming too which is special because he’s boycotting the stadium due to smoking restrictions.
  • Tomorrow I’m going to check out a new band on a whim with the roommate.
  • Friday I am going to cuddle and smooch with the new boy.

So all of the worrying and hand-wringing led up to some serious fun and outpouring of love and I couldn’t be happier!

Every day is going to be like this…right?

Thanks again, all. Your well-wishes really meant a lot!!!

Glad you had a fab birthday. Best wishes from a fellow NE Ohioan. Go Tribe!

Hey – I’ve been there! I just looked at their site – love how the cupcakes have “non perils” on them. Everybody needs some of those. What is this steak place of which you speak? Which band?

And oh yeah, Go Tribe!

NEW BOY!

YAAaaaaYYYYY!

I got this one cupcake called “Champagne & Berries.” The buttercream frosting had champagne in it and the cake was extremely dense and berry flavored. On top of the frosting was crystalized sugar. NUMMY!

I went to Red in Beachwood. It’s quite fancy!

Going to see the afternoon naps at the Beachland. If you find yourself going to the show, say hey  They’re very twee and poppy!

I didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but as long as you opened that can of worms - my 30th birthday was also the worst birthday ever, and nothing has ever come close since. I was with friends, at a bar, having a grand old time and come midnight, I simply had a meltdown and had never been so depressed in my entire life. It was embarrassing…I literally started crying as if the world had come to an end.

The good news is that since then I have never had even a flicker of regret or sadness about any of the many, many birthdays to follow.

Happy Belated Birthday, ZipperJJ!
Glad you didn’t have to go through what Shirley and I had to go through.

After I turned thirty, my then-wife said, “now if you drop over dead, they’ll no longer say you died young.”

She was a grim little thing sometimes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy belated birthday

There was a distinct possibility that I could have had a reaction like Shirley and DMark. My friends are all slowly descending into 30-ness and I have had a good-hearted laugh about them but for some reason I was feeling awfully stressed.

Luckilly, I had enough people go through it before me and such a nice outpouring of love that I forgot to be upset. Now I’m 30-and-one-day and doing just fine.

Glad you guys survived! And thanks for the belated wishes, too.

For my 30th, my wife organized a big weekend at a cabin out in the country for us and a dozen friends, including horseback riding, woodswalking, and just shooting the breeze on the porch overlooking a sun-sparkling creek. Pure bliss.

Yeah well my gift from my business partner just got delivered.

Authentic autographed Grady Sizemore bat.

I may just have that panic attack after all!!!

Oh my, that IS a good present. I mean, if you’re you. If you’re me, you have to go to Wikipedia and look up who the heck “Grady Sizemore” is.

I had an awesome 30th. But it helps to be turning 30 on January 1, 2000. I always celebrate my birthday starting at midnight (since I’m up at midnight on New Year’s Eve) and it was very cool to be hanging out drinking amazing champagne and watching the new millennium celebrations whilst turning 30.

Unfortunately, you have to plan ahead and be born on Jan 1 1970 for that kind of thing, so you all are probably SoL on that one.
