Just as an aside (and, hopefully something else to take your mind off of worrying about which one you get into), where you get your undergrad education is largely irrelevant. If you plan on getting a Masters or Doctorate, personally I’d save the ‘big names’ (Davis and Berkeley, for example) until then. A Ph.D. from UCB with a B.A. from CSU Hayward will mean a lot more to employers than the other way around…
Berkeley also has the annoying policy of not accepting their undergrads into their graduate programs (this is true with many of their scientific majors, anyway; I don’t know if it holds true for majors in the Humanities or Arts, etc.).
Of course, if you don’t plan to continue, go for the name
Well Mauve, I actually plan to go to Law School. I do know that Santa Barbara has a very good “pre-law” program, but Irvine is a good Liberal Arts school. I plan on majoring in English.
From what I understand, Berkeley accepts 50% based on academic performance, and 50% based on Personal statement. Davis just uses an index (GPA plus test scores multiplied by some number).
My GPA is not that great (weighted it’s 3.89) and my SAT scores were not very high, (1220), that’s why I’m worried.
Thank you everybody for your encouragement. I feel lots better today, though I’m still nervous.
