I'm about to watch a ton of Angel!

Last month I posted about spending some Christmas money on all five seasons of Angel. Well, as happens on occasion, the Amazon Marketplace seller I purchased the DVDs from turned out to be a bad apple. They never did ship my package, and ended up dropping off the face of the earth leaving behind a flameout of negative feedback. Amazon finally refunded my gift certificate yesterday, and today I bought all five seasons again– for real this time! (Something good did come out of the month-long detour: I ended up getting an even better deal than I did the first time, to the tune of about $12. Sweet!)

No particular reason for sharing this, just thought that all the Whedon groupies on this board might be gratified to hear that this Firefly fan is about to embark on his first foray into the wider Whedonverse!

You’re in for a treat. With the exception of Season Four, I think Angel is pretty even throughout its run - high quality stuff.

Oooh, me too! I’m finishing up “Buffy” Season 5, then I’m going to jump into the “Angel” universe and not be heard from for months. I watched “Angel” Season One a while back; I was a “Buffy” fan, but I wasn’t as keen on “Angel,” but after watching the first Season, I think “Angel” is probably better than “Buffy.”

The vengeful spirit of the Most Beloved Daughter of the Kalderash people commanded me to move this to Cafe Society. (Just so you know.)

You are in for one helluva ride. Strap in, keep your hands in your lap, and enjoy! OK, there are the odd stinker episodes, but there aren’t many.

You’re in for a real treat. To be honest, I don’t think much of Angel season 1 (despite a few random awesome episodes), but it gets way better from there. Season 5 of Angel is my favorite season of any show, ever.

Season 2 in Angel remains my favorite season (although, I was never too impressed by the last few episodes of the season). Overall, though, great series.

You certainly lead a rich, fulfilling life.

Kiddin’.

I loved “Angel”, I especially loved Cordelia who I thought was obnoxious on ‘Buffy’ but really bloomed as a character. Season 1 was a bit shaky. The series really takes off in Season 2 with the return of Da-(ooops! Did I almost spoil something?)

Kick ass. You’ll have fun. Having watched it a few times now, I find the midpoint of Season 4 to be a bit of a drag, but the rest of it rocks. Season 5 was my favorite, but I also love 1 and 2.

One of my favorite parts of rewatching it is going from season 5 Wesley to season 1 Wesley. It’s a pretty startling difference, like comparing a Peter Miller Batman with an Adam West Batman.

Say it loud, I’m a dork and I’m proud.

I’ve actually watched a bunch of episodes on TNT already, from all throughout the series, so I’m kind of familiar with the characters and the overall arc of the show. Now I’m looking forward to watching the whole thing, in the right order.

I watched Angel mostly on DVD, too. I feel a little jealous of you. Enjoy  .

Want me to tell you how it ends?? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thinking over the whole run, I think my favorite two lines from the series were both spoken by Angel himself:

“Can you guys see how non-on-fire I am?”
and
“Personally, I think I’d like to slay the dragon.”

Now you can watch with the anticipation of those lines in there somewhere, and you’ll appreciate them as much as I do when you get them in context.

Dang, I’ve seen both of those episodes already. :stuck_out_tongue: Loved the not-on-fire line.

Hang on… you’re watching Angel before Buffy?

That seems backwards. Buffy is (a) better (imho) (although inconsistent in its first season) and (b) the foundation on which Angel is built in many ways.
I highly recommend Buffy first, perhaps starting with only the key episodes of season 1, and then on to season 2.

My favourite moment in Angel so far (and I’ve seen a lot of episodes on tv already) is when Wesley is dancing like a complete spaz, and a girl asks Angel to dance, and he imagines himself dancing (like a complete spaz), and says, “I don’t dance.” Heck, it’s one of my favourite moments in television, period. And then during the credits, they’re both dancing again.

That is truly a brilliant little moment. Angel clapping his hands around in a circle is just comedy gold.

Another one of my favorite moments is the bashful demon with the big gulp. “Who’s there please?”

Well, he’s got Angel in his mits now. Buffy will come later, I’m sure.

Is it just my imagination, or does Donny Osmond dance a little bit like Angel in the Weird Al “White and Nerdy” video? I know W. Al is a massive nerd, so it’s entirely possible that he’s a Whedon fan.

I’m sure it will eventually. The deciding factor right now is that I’ve seen a bit of Angel already and I know that I like it-- I’ve never seen any Buffy at all, so it’s more of an unknown quantity for me. That, combined with people telling me that the show starts out shaky and takes a couple of seasons to get going, makes me hesitant to jump in. I’ll get around to it sooner or later.
