Gods that’s awesome! (And I missed that episode)
There is a Doctor Who “short” / mini-episode you may want to see that has Peter Davison and David Tennant in it called Time Crash.
It was produced to raise money for a children’s charity, and has Davison reprising his role as the 5th Doctor running into the 10th Doctor due to a small TARDIS mishap.
(Tennant’s character says during the episiode: “You were *my *Doctor”, echoing Tennant’s own experience with Davison as the Doctor when he was growing up).
Me too. I caught about half of the second part of that serial on the original CBC airing, and even though I didn’t really manage to settle down and watch regularly until I rented the DVD box sets, that moment was what really won me over to Doctor Who.
Just this once, everybody lives. I could use more days like this.
The Attackkids and I fell about the place when that happened.
He’s just got engaged to Peter Davison’s daughter Georgia.
Small tip. See all that Who between Davison and Eccleston (three Doctors, a couple of seasons of TV and one TV movie)? Don’t watch it. Not unless you’ve seen absolutely every last bit of Who before and after and are simply desperate to watch more, no matter how bad.
And they’re going to have a baby! The kid’s father and grandfather will *both *have been The Doctor. If that kid ever gets into acting, talk about being born to play a certain role. ![]()
I always thought Sylvester McCoy got the short end of the stick. He had some really awful scripts, in my opinion, but I rather liked his take on the Doctor. And Ace was a capable companion, at least. But he never really had the chance to bring the series back after the Colin Baker years. I think the folks at the BBC had already pretty much decided the Doctor’s time was up by the time he signed on and were kind of phoning it in at that point.
Of course, it was Colin Baker who got the really bad deal. He was in 8 stories, and they were possibly the 8 worst scripts in Who history. He was made a scapegoat, and sacked, which is unfair. Nobody could have been good given the material he had.
During the McCoy years, the scripts were gradually improving. By the end, some of them were above average. If the trend had continued, they might have actually been good the next year. But I never warmed to McCoy as a character or as an actor. He wasn’t that much of an actor to begin with. His background was as a presenter in childrens TV shows, basically clowning around, and hadn’t done much actual acting before Doctor Who. He was simply the wrong choice for the part, and the show might have had a chance at survival with someone else.
My daughter is getting her picture in the San Antonio newspaper next month dressed as either a Companion or as 10 or 11. She is a BIG Doctor Who fan, to the point where the kids at school are tired of hearing her talk about it and tease her a bit - to which she just gets louder and brassier.
Anyway, we go to this monthly theater-dinner showings of Doctor Who episodes and the organizer has a friend who writes for the SA News-Gazette, this friend doing a feature on the Doctor Who fan group.
I think I just died of cute. Seriously, that’s awesome.
Her “Mind the Gap” t-shirt was bought at The Who Shop while on a London trip. TWS also ships us regular editions of Doctor Who Adventures magazine, to whom(?) Sophie has submitted pictures of her Doctor Who clubhouse (i.e., her closet, which has DW posters on the wall, figurines, K-9’s, books, magazines, comic, etc).
Like I said, the kid is a BIG fan and it’s something we encourage - after all, it’s not as if the 9yo is driving herself around looking for blue suits that would fit her. ![]()
Here’s some more cute: Sophie as Rose Tyler. Her dimples are just as pronounced as they were when she was a baby. While wearing this, she would always repeat a line that Rose said to the Doctor as he was riding a motorcycle, but for the life of me I can’t remember it. (yes, she expected the proper response…)
unwatchable?? your friend needs to see him in other projects. while i enjoy tennant, his acting is on a completely different level than eccleston’s.
rtd was an absolute genious for casting eccleston: a completely perfect choice to reboot the series - and i’m still quite sorry he only did one year of it.
for an american watching doctor who again after so many years, i was utterly floored by his doctor: dark, flawed, enigmatic. the last doctor i even remembered watching before the series vanished from our pbs station, was davison. very nice - but rather like a vanilla milkshake.
eccleston, on the other hand, is like dark chocolate and merlot. ‘fellow’ lady dopers, you know *exactly *what i mean. ![]()
i had never heard of him before, of course, but right after i saw ‘rose,’ i wanted to know who the hell this guy was, and looked him up online. he’s one of britain’s most respected actors and absolutely fascinating to watch no matter what he’s in.
a master craftsman of acting, he generally picks unusual material to do and is mesmerizing in just about everything he’s been in. i’ve bought several of his films, including ‘jude,’ ‘revenger’s tragedy,’ ‘othello,’ and ‘parents.’
and, if i could get my paws on ‘our friends in the north,’ i’d buy that too.
I keep thinking that I need to follow up with him on that statement someday… ![]()
I beg to differ. All of the Jon Pertwee era stories are available (or will be in short order), and he’s an excellent doctor. I’d start there, with “Spearhead from Space”.
Ack, I just discovered that “Planet of the Dead” is only available via instant streaming until this Friday: I’ll have to watch it out of sequence.
It’s available on the Amazon UK site. But, yes, one of the best dramas ever. Nobody who watched this would ever have dreamed than Dan Craig would have played Bond!
It’s the TARDIS! The most powerful bit of technology in the universe. If it doesn’t want to be sucked in, then it doesn’t get sucked in (besides, it could simply dematerialise).
You think the Dandy and his “Whomobile” is the place to start?

That would not have been possible. See, the TARDIS is held in place by-
Look! Monsters!
RUN!!!
