He’s never gone in it so I’ve never washed it out. I line it with paper towel and then switch it out when I re-bait it. He did poke his head in it earlier and got a taste of the peanut butter and seeds but when he stepped in a little, the trap door moved a tiny bit and he quickly backed up. That’s the most he’s ever done, though, so maybe there’s hope!
I live downtown in the city, anywhere I release him, he’ll be in very close proximity to other humans.
I live out in the woods and get the occasional mouse in the place.
Screw live traps. Snap traps are where its at. Occasionally I get a smart mouse that can steal the bait from the snap trap - then I switch to glue traps. Usually put a little dollop of peanut butter in the middle to entice the little fucker.
I also have three cats that’ll catch and kill the little bastards if I don’t trap, but they leave half the body laying around and who wants to step on that in the dark?
I wouldn’t keep a wild mouse as a pet. Hantavirus anyone?
Got my first mouse!!! I bought 12 sticky traps from Home Depot. I knew they were coming out of my hot water closet. There’s a crack under the door. So I set a row across the width of the door. First night the mouse just pushed one aside. So today I set them back underneath the door. Came home and Yes!!! he was stuck good.
I admit hearing him squeak at me wasn’t pleasant. Wrapped the whole trap in newspaper, put in my garbage bag of trash, and set it out in the yard. He may pull himself free and escape outside. Or that may be his final resting place. They are not safe to handle because of fleas and disease. So I’m not about to do anything else with it.
That’s better than poison and having him stink up the house for two weeks.
That’s one. I bet there’s several more to go. sigh…
Home Depot had two kinds. One small for only mice and one bigger one for mice and rats. I bought the bigger one. Good thing, because this guy was the size of a softball. He might have yanked from from the smaller trap.
