I'm bored with "technology gone too far" stories

I like sci fi, but I’m over stories where some new technology comes around and causes terrible things to happen. Can anyone recommend me any books/movies/comics/etc where the opposite happens? I.e. bad things occur because people don’t embrace new technology?

Seems like more of a plot point than a plot, how would the book explore that? Can you name one?

Hyboria has the potential to be utopian, except for the one man who keeps running around killing off all the scientists.

Sounds like Star Trek.

I can’t think of one, that’s why I’m asking. The best example I can give, and this is stretching it, is the Simpsons episode where they all throw their guns away only for the aliens to realise this is the perfect time to attack. They also had a similar episode with zombies.

I guess I’m looking for a story where the guns are replaced with some piece of sci fi technology. Though what LHOD suggested sounds interesting.

Haha, I did like that.

Yeah, I never watched much of Star Trek but from what I understand it was always fairly utopian in its depiction of the future (to an extent).

I read them forever ago, but I think the Culture Novels (Ian Banks) were fairly utopian.

Or Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars books, while they aren’t exactly utopian, generally show humankind as becoming better and more successful via embracing technology. Even the characters sceptical of various technological changes in those books are generally against particular applications rather than technology itself.
