I'm confused.

On other message boards I seen posts that are each a page full of captioned pictures, and tried to figure out the relevance to the topic. Then I scroll down to realize that these same pictures are on EVERY post. So now I have to go back and figure out relevant part of the post. “Oh, there it is, hidden between the pictures. He said ‘yup’ in the first post, and ‘LOL’ in the next one.” Then I decided that it’s too hard to sift through the crap to follow the discussion and leave.

No thanks.

I have tried to browse video gaming boards, and the flashing/moving sigs and avatars are so distracting that I’ve given up. Plus, most of the sigs and avatars are so overblown that my opinion of many posters drops dramatically.

I do rather like small static avatars, but I rather doubt that we’ll implement even small ones here.

I agree with this, I’ve seen it done rather tastefully without distracting attention. And for those of us who can more easily recall an image it can help with identifying previous opinions, stances, and tones.

I also cannot fathom how the gaming forums work. I am almost illiterate when I try to browse them. “Wait, is he quoting who? Or responding to what? Maybe sharing a video, but it’s a double post? Triple post? Gah, he keeps showing me this skateboarder shattering his nuts!”

Another drawback (for me) of this board is the “we’re so much better than everyone else” attitude you see here.

We are a board that has no special affiliation with nuclear science of any kind.

On the third of this month there was a question in GQ asking how dangerous it is to handle weapons grade plutonium.

Five hours later there was a post that started, “I write safety basis documents for a facility that processes weapons grade plutonium.”

Stuff like that happens all the time.

Explain how we are not better than everyone else.
