I'm employee of the month! Wait, there's more!

At my store (a national chain) we have something that roughly equals an employee of the month system. It used to be, until a month ago, that the managers would pick someone. Now everyone puts in votes for the winners. I was feeling pretty sure that I wouldn’t be winning, even though I knew of one person who was voting for me.

Lo and behold, I won! Much to my surprise!

She did say “wait, there’s more,” didn’t she?

Every month, the managers in each district (7 stores in mine) discuss who the winners were in their individual stores and they all vote on who should win for the district. I happened to work with one of the other managers one day while she was at our store and I apparently made a very good impression on her so she was all about seconding a vote for me. Soo…I won for the whole district too!

YAY ME! I was genuinely surprised to hear all this and it makes me really feel like I’m part of the ‘team’ at work. ;j

So… Any neat prizes?? Or at least your picture on the wall?

Congratulations!

Yay!

…And a check. The kid said something about a check.

Are you going to be changing your user name to “Ordinary Carbon Graphite Rod”?

I got a keychain! w00t! According to the little info card I’m supposed to get a pin, too. I asked my manager about the pin and she said “yeah, I think there’s something else coming for you.”

And yes, I got a photo taken. Polaroid, in fact. It’s one of those pictures where you look and say “gah, I look like that?” It was a frizzy day. (Those of you that have seen my hair understand). There’s also a little blurb next to the photo about what makes me so swell, lol. The poster where the photos and blurbs go is in the back where just the staff can see it, btw. I wonder, if the public could see the poster, would they think “ooh I want her”?

Pencil? Huh? Wha?

What? You’ve never seen that episode of The Simpsons when they’re trying to figure out who to make employee of the month, and they award it to an ordinary carbon graphite rod instead of Homer? Shame on you! What are they teaching in schools these days!

Isn’t it “inanimate carbon rod”?

You mean an inanimate carbon rod.

IN ROD WE TRUST.

Could be. I’ve only seen the episode once or twice since it originally aired.
