I'm Finally Getting A Cleaner - Yay!!!

After years of saying “I should get a cleaner” I have finally been able to fiddle the household budget so I can afford it - Yay:)

All it took was both of us working full time and me being 5 months pregnant to make me finally realise that it was time. To be precise the realisation came as crawled around on my hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor (yes I was barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen).

So in two weeks time I shall be able to wallow in luxury as someone else scrubs my floor, shower and toilet!

They’re called cleaners now? What differentiates them in conversation from dry cleaners?

Back when my mom was one, she called herself the wonderfully politically incorrect term cleaning lady.

Ours is called a cleaning service. The persons who do the work are the cleaners. We just signed up this weekend (after a 4-year hiatus - yay raises!).

You’ll love it. And having a kid is a great time to have a cleaning service!

I’m glad that Mr. Moto and hedra posted because I had no idea what the OP meant

I’d love a cleaning service, personally. Oh man would I love it.

Now, see, I’ve been kicking around the same idea…how much are you paying for yours? How often do they come?

leechbabe - you’ll find yourself tidying up before (s)he comes each time, we did! People thought we were strange cleaning up for the cleaner but you’ll do it, I promise :).

Yeah, Lady Chance does a bit of that. But not too much.

We call them ‘maids’, personally. They comes every other Wednesday or whenever I ask for a special (like before parties and such).

Cost: $80 per session. They do a kickin’ job.

It it’s my house, they best bring their nuclear-proof tongs for my laundry.

I bet that just woke up Carnivore.

That’s what mine calls herself, on the rare occasions that she needs to use a name other than her own.

Hmm another one of those Australian English vs American English translation problems. Most of the people I spoke to called themselves ‘cleaners’.

The prices I was quoted varied between Aust$35 to Aust$60 for two hours work. Check if they bring their own cleaning products or use yours as this makes a difference to the overall cost.

I’m sure I will be cleaning because the cleaner is coming but hopefully it will just be a quick surface wipe over, no more scrubbing floors for this leech.

I am so, so glad that I’ve finally decided to go ahead and get someone in, and to top it off leechboy has agreed that we should get a gardener to mow the lawns and weed / prune the plants. Yay  No more weekends spent slaving away cleaning and tidying, now I can enjoy being pregnant.

Leechbabe, I think you mean that you will be picking up clutter so that the cleaning lady can best clean the surfaces, instead of cleaning the surfaces yourself. If you leave newspapers, toys, etc. lying around the cleaning lady has to spend more time picking up instead of actual cleaning.

Valid point medstar, this shouldn’t be to much of a chore though as leechboy will tell you I’m obsessed with putting things away after they’ve been used - drives him nuts. This will probably all change after the baby is born though, at least everyone tells me it will.
