I'm FLOORED!

This past week, I finally got the carpet and flooring guys in to put down new flooring to replace the stuff that was damaged when my house flooded.

Great! Now I can bo barefoot again. The carpet is a sculpted, multi-hued blue that looks a lot better to me than the old, crappy beige it replaced. The hard flooring is some stuff that comes on a roll (Congoleum?) that looks like a light-colored hardwood floor (it also feels good on my feet, but it’s colder than the carpet). When the dogs came in after the contractors left, they looked around in amazement and began romping around. Apparently, they didn’t like the feel of the bare concrete and asphalt tile that had been under the old carpet either.

Problem! Now I have new carpet, there’s a problem with static electricity. Whenever I go to pet the dogs, as soon as their cold, wet noses get close to me, a spark of static electricity arcs from me to them. This upsets the dogs, and I don’t like it much either.

What can I do to reduce (or halt) the formation of static electricity in my carpet? Can I just buy a can of antistatic stuff and spray the carpet? Will I have to install grounding straps on the dogs?

What can I do?

mix fabric softner and water in a squirt bottle and spray down the carpet. do not use static guard it is flammable (sp) if you spark while spraying. the fab. soft. to water is 2 part to one. keep spraying until things settle down. also you could try adjusting the humidity levels in your room, more humid less spark. good luck.

You can also try rubbing your dogs down with dryer sheets.
Or the carpet, that would take a lot longer. Be careful with the fabric softner spray, it can leave your carpet with oily spots. Also, give the carpet company a call, you can’t be the first one with this problem.
