…just don’t bring a sword to a gunfight.
Sometimes I wonder if we’re living in America or a warzone. There are people in Venezuela packing less heat than some Dopers.
I think it’s the way for the cops to tell us that we’re on our own.
If people started dressing medieval again, that’d be pretty cool, Texas could be a giant Renaissance Fair. With the BBQ down there too, it’d bode pretty well. Firearms would spoil the fun though. Not sure which is deadlier, a Sword or a Pistol in terms of physical damage, I’d imagine the sword, but firearms work from a distance. Anyone know? It’s like playing a role playing game… I think I’ll play Skyrim later.
One prefers to deal with ruffians with a sharp-edged tongue and razor wit. Failing that, the gentleman’s brolly should be sufficient.
Nifty!
Yo Scumpup, you were saying?
You just going to gloat or are you going to say from whom you got them?
Look on the envelope, Cold Steel!
I sent an email saying that I just got the cane and the O-rings looked dry. I asked if I could order some from them? They sent me these for free but they asked for the receipt first.
Now I know what size they are, smaller than I thought. Stretch them out and they get thinner.
From whom at Cold Steel? I emailed them from their own website several times and got no response.
Yo scum pup, buy some oring material and oring glue and you can make your own, for next to nothing! Make hundreds! Just get a measure on the diameter of the material and you’re cooking!!
Those O-rings cannot be special sized. They’ll be either metric or standard. Harbor Freight carry boxes of assortments in either measures.
I brought out my calipers:
OD-25mm
ID-17.5mm
WD-2.5mm (flat sided)
I took the originals to Home Depot, Lowe’s, a couple different auto parts chain stores, and a hardware store and couldn’t find a match. It is the flat sides that confound things. Round ones prevent the handle from seating properly in the sheath.
This store seems to have what is needed in quantity. If you can determine the correct size and material, we can order them in quantity.
Forgot to mention that we want square x-section rings.
I’ve read in the Cold Steel forum that a fella used #14 standard O-ring in his cane with success.
I read that too. I bought a box of them and found they didn’t work. Too fat. I even used a dremel and some rouge to polish the throat of the sheath a bit.
I ordered some 11/16 inside diameter square x-section rings. I will let you know if they work.
He must’ve done something with them to make it fit. Maybe he put them in a press to flatten them.
We could modify the grooves to accept common sized O-rings.
That might be the best long-term solution.
