Through the magic of Buy It Now on ebay, I will soon be the proud owner of a Cloud Strife-type Buster Sword. It can be seen here along with other replicas of swords from the Final Fantasy series. (Note: this isn’t the merchant from which I purchased and all the swords are available for much less on ebay.)
Given the pricepoint at which these are marketed, they’re certainly not going to be the first word in fit, finish, or durability, but I expect it will look absolutely delightful up on the wall.
Ha! Hilarious, I love it!
Greg Dean will be jealous.
If that’s all they cost, though… huh.
I just googled “buster sword” to see an example of a person holding one and found this. A shirtless (?) dude is getting his Cloud on.
If those gunblades shown on the merchant’s website had actual revolving cylinders, I might check them out. As they are, they aren’t realistic enough for me.
Oh, I see. The guy in my linked pic is showing of his super-cool Cloud tattoo! How could I have not seen that? :smack:
Also note the XIII on his hand. I can’t make out what’s on his shoulder…
My friend has one of those under his bed.
Its neat, but you can instantly tell why the giant unbalanced sword never caught on in wartime.
Mind you if anyone made Sephiroth’s Masamune, I would so have that.
What, this? Yours for $98.99 plus shipping, it looks like.
Still looks giant and unbalanced to me.
A moment too slow, it seems.
Of course they are giant and unbalanced. They are replicas of fantasy weapons from a video game for pity’s sake. I own several very real, very lethal swords that are beautifully balanced and feel alive in the hand. But that isn’t the point of owning a Final Fantasy sword, is it?
If I’ve got filet mignon on the table, I don’t reach for a Whopper.
That said, there was some cool looking stuff on that site. Emphasis on ‘looking.’
What? Are you a red-headed flower girl or something?
Speaking as one who has collected edged weapons since the 1970’s, I can’t help but wonder about your obvious disdain for fantasy knives/swords. They are a staple of the custom makers. Gil Hibben, for one, was turning out fantasy knives long before UC began mass-producing replicas of his work. Blade Magazine does substantial coverage of fantasy works. Knives annual has a whole section devoted to the topic. The whole “point” of fantasy knives is that they are cool looking. That is precisely why I bought a buster Sword. Dude, if you want to talk about killing folks, there’s a newfangled thing called a gonne available. This being Cafe Society, I’ll be happy to debate this whole thing further in a forum more suited. Open a thread and let me know.
As a person, who not only collects edged weapons, but actually practices sword baised martial arts, I agree.
Hey, you said in the OP, this sword will go on the wall. If you had said you were going to practice katas with it, or even go on a quest to save the world, I would think you were in need of help, but on the wall it will indeed look very cool, and thus give you the pleasure it was meant to.
The same reason I want to get a lightsaber ;)
Enjoy!
Meh, it’s too short. The blade is barely over four feet. Look at that picture of Sephiroth with the sword, the blade should be bigger than he is!
Heh, I like how the description of the buster sword notes that it has 2 open materia slots. Now you must buy materia (reasonably priced)!
Swoops in from the ceiling, steals Gozu’s materia, and runs away.
Like this ?
Those materia are somewhat bigger than I had always thought them to be. Given that they go into materia slots on weapons and armor/jewelry, I figured they were about the size of a marble.
Ironically, Sephiroth’s Masamune might need to be bigger. Still, it’s roughly within the range of a no-dachi.
